A Note from Gary
Hi
Subscriber,
Right off the top here, I have to make a sincere
apology to a person I haven’t even met. Here’s the story: I put the word out for a Joomla operator to
work on my website and somebody put me in touch with a fellow called Gino
Lancaster Well I emailed Gino and he
replied saying he would get onto somebody and have them make contact.from
Red Planet design www.redplanetdesign.com.au The word was, he was an efficient operator who owns a successful
company and he may know of somebody.
The impressive part was that the person who had
referred Gino had only heard of this chap and his reputation, from what many
others were saying. He had not actually done any work with them. I became
frustrated when I didn’t hear anything for about 1.5 weeks and out of the
blue Gino called me to apologise for forgetting about our conversation. He
assured me he would get immediately onto this and call me in a few days to
see how I went.
About 3 days later I had heard nothing again, so
I emailed the referrer to let them know Gino had let me down again and I
forwarded my disappointment to Gino’s email as well. About an hour after
doing this I received a long email from Gino, defending himself and his
reputation, explaining the lengths he had gone to arrange something for me.
Now that we’ve had our giggle at the awkward
position I found myself in, I of course lamented over other (dignified) ways
I could / should have handled this situation. Clearly with a little more tact
is the obvious answer, although after the first delay, there was a kind of
expectation that had been created. Could I forward an email suggesting he may
have forgotten me again? Should I have made contact with another expert
immediately and bypassed the middle man?
I made a sincere effort and called Gino direct to
apologise. He accepted thankfully and nothing more eventuated. This is great
learning content for me personally though. I thank Gino for being involved
and helping me with this. Sure I consider watch my communication style.
The message for readers (and the writer) though,
is the passion which Gino has about his own reputation and that of his
businesses. I’m quite sure his response was not delivered from a position of
competition between business owners but more from the pride in what he has
created and the importance to him that his clients think nothing but Quality
of his Brand.
I applaud
his response to this situation and understand fully why his name and company
reputation precede him. Remember he was referred by someone who doesn’t know
him, has done work for him or got work done. But its his name that was
suggested by many people when we asked.
