STAFF PROFILE: Tammy Rozak & Ashley Kennedy
We are excited to introduce our new Ridgewood/Y Express and North Royalton Wellness Director, Tammy Rozak.
Tammy was born in Cleveland and spent a large portion of her childhood here. She has had a love of exercise ever since she can remember.
For the last 13 years, Tammy has been employed at the Akron Association YMCA. She has worked in many capacities, from part-time wellness coach to full-time Health and Wellness Director. She holds a bachelor’s degree in health and wellness and is a certified Personal Trainer through AFAA, an Instructor Trainer for the YMCA of the USA, a Zumba Instructor, and an educator for the American Red Cross.
Tammy enjoys working with all populations and is looking forward to building relationships in our community.
Ashley Kennedy joins our YMCA family as part of our Member Services and Child Watch teams. A native of Cleveland, Ashley and her family moved to Parma when she was 11 years old.
A graduate of Parma High School, Ashley played high school club rugby for three years. Outside the YMCA she enjoys playing rugby and being active outdoors whenever possible, and says she loves being a part of the YMCA family because the staff and members are so friendly and welcoming.
Please join us in warmly welcoming Tammy and Ashley to our YMCA family! |

A Life Preserved
At the YMCA of Greater Cleveland, nothing is more important to us than our members and the community we serve. On Thursday, Oct. 20, Ridgewood lifeguard Lisa Fike put those words into action when she helped save the life of longtime YMCA member Louie Maugeri.
Maugeri, a mainstay of Ridgewood’s weekday morning workout crew, collapsed after using the treadmill. Fike quickly sprang into action, performing chest compressions while new YMCA member Deidra Burton assisted with rescue breathing and Member Services Representative Stephanie Kolach called 9-1-1. The cardiopulmonary resuscitation efforts of the YMCA staff and members along with the efforts of the Emergency Medical Technicians paid off. Louie was discharged from Parma Community General Hospital after an overnight stay, and returned to the Ridgewood Family YMCA a few days later.
Please be sure to congratulate our staff and members involved in the heroic rescue and be sure to wish Louie a speedy recovery.

During the Holiday Season it’s time for us to reflect and give thanks for what we have in our lives. On behalf of the Ridgewood Family YMCA staff, I would like to thank you all for assisting us with our 2011 Strong Kids Campaign Scholarship Program.
This year our focus was Developing Youth, Promoting Healthy Living and being Socially Responsible. To celebrate our success with our Strong Kids Campaign we held our “Thanks for Giving” month this past November. Children from the Brooklyn Hurricane Café Program, which is one of our many community outreach programs, made a banner that hung in our lobby thanking everyone for their financial contributions.
Through your financial contributions, we were able to scholarship over 300 children and families at the Ridgewood Family YMCA in 2011. We also provided 80 Parma-area children from our Summer Day Camp with FREE swim lessons this summer and sent 15 area teens to participate at the YMCA Great Lakes Leaders School at Mount Union College in July. Special thanks go to our Ridgewood YMCA Dolphins Swim Team, which raised over $1,000 from the Strong Kids Swim Lollipop Meet this past September. If you get a chance, stop in and check out one of the Dolphin’s home swim meets and say thank you.
In closing, I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of you and your families a happy and safe holiday season. Let us each treasure the time we spend with family and take the time to be thankful for all of our blessings. Please also take time to reflect and say a prayer to honor our loved ones, past and present, as well as our troops serving our country. We are all part of a great YMCA community and can be thankful. We look forward to you visiting our YMCA facilities in the New Year and participating in our YMCA Programs.
