RIDGEWOOD STUDIOS
In an effort to better serve all our members, the Y-Express inside Parmatown Mall has been converted to the
Ridgewood Studios, a facility dedicated to group exercise, cycling, and more. The cardio and weight machines have been removed from the facility and transferred to the Ridgewood YMCA, opening more room in the former Y-Express for more group exercise and programming options, and giving the Ridgewood Family YMCA more modern equipment with more options.
In addition we have modified the hours of operation to reflect the group exercise class schedule. The child watch room and hours remain unchanged at the time of publication.
For our valued members – there is no change to your membership, fees or dues.
For more information, please stop by the front desk at the Ridgewood Family YMCA or the Ridgewood Studios, or call us at 440.842.5200 (Ridgewood Family YMCA) or 440.887.0430 (Ridgewood Studios). |

RIDGEWOOD VOLUNTEER
CELEBRATES 15 YEARS
This past September, Marie Chick celebrated 15 years serving as a volunteer at the Ridgewood Family YMCA. She is a resident of Parma and started volunteering at the Ridgewood YMCA in 1997.
Before becoming a volunteer she worked 47 years as Secretary to the Branch Manager at General Motors Acceptance Corporation. Marie says it was impossible to just sit around when she retired. Consequently, she has been keeping busy with her volunteer work, with the loving support of her husband of 54 years, Steve.
“It all began 15 years ago, while I was attending an exercise class. I noticed they needed help at the front desk and decided to volunteer my services.”
Her commitment did not end with the front desk; she also served as a Ridgewood YMCA Advisory Board Member from 2002-2005 and was named Ridgewood YMCA “Volunteer of the Year” in 2004.
Two other groups are fortunate to have Marie as a member as well. She belongs to a senior group associated with Holy Family Catholic Church in Parma as well as the GMAC Board associated with General Motors. In addition to all Marie’s commitments, she makes time for other older seniors who are alone and need assistance.
Whenever a ride is needed to a doctor, or errands are to be run, Marie is glad to help.
Even with all of her obligations, Marie is still able to make time for fun.
She particularly enjoys going on local bus trips.

ANNUAL CAMPAIGN UPDATE
Youth Development. Healthy Living. Social Responsibility.
As a cause-driven and mission-based organization, these areas of focus are central to our purpose. But how do we develop youth, promote healthy living and be socially responsible when so many families are struggling to make ends meet, let alone have discretionary income for YMCA memberships or programs? Answer: through our Annual Campaign scholarship program.
Through the Annual Campaign, the YMCA is able to help subsidize membership and program costs to members who want to participate in YMCA but may not be able to pay the full rate for programs, swim lessons, memberships, day camps and more.
To be able to offer this assistance the Ridgewood Family YMCA relies on members, guests, local businesses and the entire community for donations. All the money raised through the Strong Kids Campaign stays right here in our community, and serves children and families in Parma, Parma Heights, Seven Hills, Brooklyn and North Royalton.
The Ridgewood Family YMCA and Y-Express does not turn anyone away because of the inability to pay. We know that the Ridgewood Family YMCA gives back to our community through offering scholarships for memberships as well as for YMCA Programs. There is a unique experience when you walk into the YMCA or participate in one of our programs such as swim lessons, group cycling and aerobics, karate, cheerleading, basketball, dance, dodge ball, and even gymnastics. Through all of our programs we strive to help children develop valuable skills, gain confidence, build self-esteem and stay healthy.
Our 2013 Annual Campaign goal is $28,000. One hundred percent of your donation is tax deductible, and the funds will be used as you designate. If you can make a donation, or know a business or community member who could make a donation, please contact Tim Pinchek at the North Royalton Family YMCA at 440.230.9339, or via email.
In November the branch hosted a Zumbathon, under the direction of Wellness Coordinator Julie Stavole and Zumba Instructor Carmen Quintana. With 42 members, staff and guests in attendance, we raised $420 for the 2012 Annual Campaign.
We kick off 2013 with a chance to keep on eye on your health and help support our Annual Campaign. On January 4 the Ridgewood Family YMCA will be host to Life Line Screening, sponsored by St. Vincent Charity Medical Center. Screenings and assessments range from $35 to $60 individually, or you can select packages for $139 or $149. Pre-registration is required. To pre-register, please call 1-800-325-9458 and use Source Code HSC3057. For each pre-registration using this Source Code, Life Line Screening will donate $10 to the Annual Campaign, and you will receive $10 off your screening package.
