California Academy of Sciences launches Text2Give with "Pocket Penguins" app

Cute penguin alert...

San Francisco’s California Academy of Sciences has integrated their  Text2Give campaign with the new Pocket Penguins app for iPhone and Droid.

As they take a peek at the inner lives of the Cal Academy penguins (which mostly includes sleeping, eating and waddling adorably), Smartphone users can send a text donation from directly within the app simply by pushing “Donate via SMS.”

The button triggers a text message with keyword “PENGUINS” to be sent from the donor’s phone to short code 20222.  The donor then receives a confirmation text and responds “YES” to donate $5 to the Academy’s programs and mission. Not to mention the oh-so-cute penguins.

October is coming to a close, and that means it’s time for the 2nd Annual Mobile Giving Forum!

Last year’s Forum in San Francisco, hosted by the Mobile Giving Foundation, was a great success. This Thursday, October 27, I’ll be flying to New York City to speak on a panel with Miles Orkin, the National Director of Web and Mobile for the American Cancer Society.  Also in attendance will be Jim Manis, Chairman and CEO of the Mobile GIving Foundation, and players in the philanthropy, mobile and marketing space.

This is the perfect opportunity to ask questions about mobile fundraising and hear from other organizations who are already exploring mobile as a new way to attract, engage and stay connected with a growing mobile-savvy donor base.

If you’re in the tri-state area, it’s not too late to reserve your spot -- click here for registration information.

We hope to see you there!

Regards,
