REMEMBER TO FILE YOUR
2016 LESSEES EXEMPTION!
Since 1999, the State Board of Equalization has recognized that public charter schools have a legal right to claim a property tax exemption for property that the school leases or owns. Don't pay taxes for property that should be tax exempt! If you lease property, you must file a Lessess Exemption claim no later than February 15 of EACH YEAR for which the school leases the property. The landlord must also file a Lessors Exemption claim no later than February 15 in order to claim the exemption. If the charter school owns the property outright, the school may file a Public School Exemption claim. If your school needs assistance with this process, don't hesitate to contact your school's legal counsel for assistnace.
