Fall Equinox Nature Hike on Pine Mtn.

As the 40-year anniversary season of Herb Walks winds down, I will lead my 4th annual Fall Equinox Nature Hike on Saturday, September 24, in the peaceful Mixed Conifer Forest on Pine Mountain (elevation: 7000 feet) at the time of year when the pine nuts usually are dropping.

After carpooling up scenic Highway 33 from Ojai, we will start walking into the Sespe Wilderness from the trailhead (where there is a restroom) at about 10:30 a.m., stop for lunch in the pines, and return to the trailhead at 3:00 p.m., arriving back at the Maricopa Plaza by 4:00 p.m.

Fall Medicinal Plant Weekend with Dr. James Adams
In June, frequent guest presenter Dr. James Adams of USC School of Pharmacy returned to Ojai for our first Medicinal Plant Weekend. It filled up and we had a lengthy waiting list so, as the saying goes, he’s “back by popular demand.”

On Saturday and Sunday, October 22-23, we will offer a Fall Medicinal Plant Weekend featuring an ethnobotanical expedition to Rose Valley on Saturday and a medicinal plant walk and kitchen preparation session on Sunday.

Ojai Bowlful of Blues: Sept. 17
I take a mid-summer break from leading Herb Walks during August of each year. This year I'm busy with another project and, if you've read this far, I might as well share it with you in case you're like me and enjoy both green plants and blues music.

Along with my real-life "blues brother" Michael, the co-founder of the event, I'm co-producing the 23rd Bowlful of Blues in Ojai's Libbey Bowl on Saturday, September 17. Please visit our Bowlful of Blues website to learn more and buy tickets to attend this community based non-profit event.

Photos from the Seaside Wilderness Park Herb Walk
A number of Herb Walks participants have shared photos with me after the walks and hikes. I try to find time to label them and make them accessible for everyone but I'll admit that, as much as I enjoy doing it, it's a challenge to keep up. So my apologies to you if I haven't gotten to yours yet.

Enrique Villasenor made it easy by sharing a Google album from the Seaside Wilderness Park Herb Walk on July 23 and allowing me to comment on the photos with their common and scientific names.

Here's a link to his album with my identifying comments.
