FEATURED EVENT!
Yucca Fiber Workshop with Bruce Vincent
Saturday, November 21

Join me and legendary local naturalist-craftsman Bruce Vincent on Saturday, November 21, for a hands-on outdoor workshop in the Chumash Garden at the Ojai Valley Museum!

Step back into ancestral time and learn the traditional craft of turning raw, harvested yucca leaves into durable, functional cordage and fiber crafts. Before diving into the craft demonstration and hands-on project, enjoy a guided plant identification tour exploring the native edible, medicinal, and utility plants growing throughout the museum's Chumash Garden.

Event Highlights:
  •      Guided Garden Tour: Identify native plants and their traditional ecological uses.
  •      Hands-On Crafting: Learn step-by-step leaf processing and create your own yucca fiber item to take home.
  •      All-Inclusive: All plant material and tools are provided with registration. Just bring a plastic wash basin.
  •      Museum Access: Enjoy entry to the Ojai Valley Museum following the session (by donation).

Nature in the Neighborhood:
The Urban Forager’s Fall Harvest
Friday, November 6
Right in our own backyards, a thriving “Urban Forest” is hiding in plain sight. This 3-session course explores the ethnobotany of our immediate surroundings – a resilient mix of native stalwarts, naturalized “immigrants,” and common landscape trees and plants that flourish in Ventura County’s neighborhoods and parks.

Even if you missed the first two indoor slideshow lecture classes in this 3-part series, you can still join the in-person plant walk around the campus on Friday, November 6, to visit my Top Ten fall foraging picks.
2027 Botany Field Course for Herbalists Enrollment Open Until November 17
