Case Study: A Home Away From Home in the Canadian Great Lakes Featuring Neolith |
Located on the banks of Lake Huron, one of the five Canadian Great Lakes just an hour away from London, Ontario, is this incredible 1,600 square meter second home right in the heart of the countryside.
Hardly the typical holiday home, this lakeside “cabin” is used year-round by the owners as an enjoyable getaway for three generations.
Aiming to create a contemporary durable, versatile and low-maintenance space with an attractive and surprising look, Neolith was chosen for the interior and exterior.
The home was designed by Mark Bullivant and Johan Basson, SAOTA (Cape Town, South Africa), in collaboration with Steven Cooper and Phil Sharron from matter architectural studio inc. (London, Ontario).
The entire external surface of the home was paneled using Ceramitex with Neolith Strata Argentum in combination with the jet black Neolith Nero Zimbabwe. |
The inside of the home was cladded with Neolith as well: the floors, bathrooms, kitchen ceiling, several hallways and the stairs going up three stories. The interior color palette is a subtle representation of the exterior with a strategic balance between light and dark tones.
Neolith was chosen for this project because of its aesthetic similarity to the elements found in nature yet the added advantage lies in its durability, versatility and sustainability. This makes it a modern and practical choice for all sorts of residential applications.

ISFA Wraps Modern Surfaces Training Series in June
Have you heard? A new category in manufactured surfaces is emerging; porcelain, sintered stone and ultra-compact—these modern, mineral surfaces—are growing in popularity.
Beginning in April, ISFA partnered with leading manufacturers to provide expert virtual fabrication training for this rising category. Participants who complete the entire six-week course receive a Certificate of Completion. |
Experts from MSI, Laminam, Crossville, Dekton by Cosentino, Corian Endura, Lapitec and Daltile's Panoramic were on hand to offer step-by-step best practices for fabrication of these materials. Trainers remained available for Q&A sessions as well.
The final training session will be held June 3 with a recap session scheduled for June 10.
If you missed the live sessions, fear not! ISFA is making the recorded sessions available online. Find more information on how you can take advantage of this training series here. |
