Educational Classes & Opportunities Coming Soon!

Our theme this month ~
Listen to Your Body!
Change is in the air! Can't you feel it?  One of the great things about living in Louisville is experiencing all 4 seasons.  What a blessing.  Enjoy the spectacular fall colors as nature "paints" extraordinary scenes.

October's theme is "Listen to Your Body."  Our bodies can give us subtle and not so subtle signs that there may be "issues in our tissues."  So many times we become immune to subtle signs or ignore them as unimportant.  See the Health Tip of the Month to learn more about what these subtle signs can mean for your optimal health and wellness.

For October we are featuring two of our practitioners as Practitioners of the Month - Dorothy Henning who is certified as a Feldenkrais practitioner ...
and Melanie Tinsley who is a registered nurse and an expert instructor certified in Yamuna body rolling.   Catch one of their classes this month to learn more about these extraordinary therapies.

October is National Breast Health Awareness Month.  Our breast health expert, Betty Greaver, has planned a class on October 27th titled:  10 Things You Can Do to Reduce Your Risk of Breast Cancer.  Hope you can join us to learn more about breast health!

Also, Dr. Pete Buecker will be starting his Friday night meditation here at the office on Friday, October 23rd at 6:30 PM.  These sessions are open to all (donation only).  Dr. Pete is also offering a new class:  Wednesday Night Wellness Hour.
On October 14th the first class will feature:  Stress Less & Feel Better in 5 Minutes a Day.  Next up:  Meditation for Beginners on October 28th.  Check out his website:

Enjoy the month as we fully transition into fall.  Have a safe and happy Halloween.
Love, Kim

"A native of Louisville, Kentucky, I am a practicing Orthopedic Surgeon who is most interested in this day and age in what I call whole human healing.  It is estimated that about 70% of ailments that afflict people in our society are related to the effects of chronic stress and other imbalances in the mind-body (or body-mind) connection.  My passion is to aid people in relieving pain, suffering, and other forms of physical, mental, and emotional discomfort in life in effective, authentic, and lasting ways."

"I discovered meditation during a tumultuous time in my own life, and have been fortunate to have studied or been on retreat experiences with many of today's most relevant teachers.  Additionally, I am currently completing a PhD in Mind-Body Medicine.  I have had the pleasure of teaching mindfulness and meditation to a wide range of students, and aided many people suffering from a variety of conditions and symptoms to make profound gains in their conditions and rediscover joy and peace in their lives.  The journey has been nothing short of amazing."

"I am passionate about what I do, and believe that all who are willing to explore self-healing can benefit in transformative ways.  My style is to distill a wide body of information and experience into a simple and easily applicable set of concepts and practices that anyone can easily assimilate and use.  I am, at heart, a pragmatist.  For me, it's about offering people something they can readily and meaningfully apply within the context of the lives they are currently living (which is the only place any of it ever really works or makes sense anyway).  I warmly welcome anyone, regardless of experience or knowledge level, to any of my classes or sessions."

AIT Training!

Coming later this fall...

Join Cynthia Bowling, LCSW
Advanced Integrative Therapy - Certified Therapist & Teacher
for the AIT Basics Seminar

a 3-Day Seminar for Graduate Level Mental Health Clinicians  and Graduate Students who are currently in a supervised clinical placement.

This 3-Day Seminar is a prerequisite for all other AIT Semiars.  AIT BASICS provides everything you need to know to begin using AIT in your practice immediately.  Call Cynthia with questions, or for more information. 502.553.9843

Advanced Integrative Therapy or AIT, is a dynamic and new in-depth energy psychology that begins from the premise that ALL upsetting events are traumas and are lodged within the body, mind and spirit.  Talking gives us insight into our issues, but often does too little to remove them.  AIT removes the energy within us that is made up of our particular responses to the incidents and patterns that hurt or upset us throughout our lives.  The healing is gentle, effective and complete... promoting psychological, physical and spiritual healing by treating not just the symptoms, but the originating causes of present day difficulties that fracture human wholeness.

AIT integrates the best established and proven psychotherapies, and then adds a new energy psychology element that is body-based.  This simply and gently addresses and clears those aspects of the issue in the body, mind, and spirit.  In this way, the issue gets completely resolved!

Incorporate AIT into your therapeutic practice!

OCTOBER 2015:  IIM Practitioners of the Month
IIM Practitioner of the Month:
Dorothy Henning ~
Guild Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner
Feldenkrais Method of Somatic Education ~ Awareness Through Movement ~
A body-mind approach to improve movement, wellness and self-awareness!   "Mind your body, embody your mind."

502.240.7057 Method of Somatic Education Practitioner

Meet Dorothy Henning...
After more than 20 years in the health and fitness world, a serious injury as well as her passion for neuroplasticity and the implications this has on learning especially after injury and illness, moved Dorothy to complete the four year Feldenkrais Professional Training Program to be a Feldenkrais practitioner.  After completing these studies and a French National diploma in Sports Education from Strasbourg, France, Dorothy opened her practice in Strasbourg, where she lived and worked for 10 years.  Dorothy returned to her hometown of Louisville two years ago and is honored to be a part of the loving and stimulating team at IIM.  Witnessing the growth and progress of students of the Friday morning "Awareness Through Movement" class, as well as participating on the path to wellness with those who come to private sessions, nourishes and inspires her passion for health and human potential.

Why the name "Feldenkrais"? The Feldenkrais Method is named after Moshe Feldenkrais, an Israeli physicist, who developed the method as a means to improve after his own injuries rather than having knee surgery.  Applying the principals of physics, martial arts, and human development and learning, he taught himself to re-use his legs with ease and without pain.  He then began working with others, writing, teaching and developing the method.

The Feldenkrais Method, is this for me?  Does your back hurt, or do you have chronic pain?  Or would you like to enhance recovery from an injury even though it seems you've reached your limit of improvement?  Are you an athlete or dancer who would like to extend your potential, or are you suffering from a neurological problem?  Then give Feldenkrais a try.  Feldenkrais is also helpful to those who would like to have better posture, less pain, and breathe and move more easily.  The Method has also been shown to aid with stress or anxiety--the attention, gentle touch, and awareness to self and the body help bring you to a state of mindfulness, a feeling of calm, focus and self-awareness.  Dorothy works with adults and children.

How do I do it?  The method is taught in two forms, in group classes known as Awareness Through Movement and in individual hands-on sessions known as Functional Integration sessions.  Please stop by and try a class at IIM on Fridays at 10:30AM...
Special Offer:  During all the month of October, come try one class free!

mind your body, embody your mind."

"I believe that the unity of mind and body is an objective reality.  They are not just parts somehow related to each other, but an inseparable whole while functioning.  A brain without a body could not think."             - Moshe Feldenkrais

OCTOBER 2015:  IIM Practitioners of the Month
IIM Practitioner of the Month:

Melanie Tinsley, RN BS
Certified in Yamuna Body Rolling, Yamuna Foot Fitness and Yamuna Face Ball
"Combining healing, wellness and injury prevention..."

Meet Melanie Tinsley...
Spending over 25 years as a nurse has given Melanie the opportunity to care for others and to see the unique struggles of the individual.  The effects that pain and dysfunction can have on a person both physically and mentally can be overwhelming.  As a healer, Melanie saw the need for a more holistic approach in her toolkit.  As a result, she has devoted herself to the complementary and alternative therapies of Yamuna.  As a practitioner here at IIM, Melanie has introduced Yamuna as a quiet revolution in sustainability... Yamuna is more than a new approach to body care, it is a whole new category of body awareness, giving the client the tools to self heal.

Yamuna Body Rolling, Yamuna Foot Fitness, and Yamuna Face Ball... Body Rolling focuses on the realignment of the skeleton by impacting and reeducating muscle... Foot Fitness relieves discomfort by aligning the bone and making space through the joints... Face Ball directly stimulates the bones of the face in an uplifting motion, which minimizes the effects of gravity.  By using specially designed balls you can find relief from pain and the hope and possibility of healing - while lessening the wear and tear on the body and promoting sustainability - which is not addressed in typical exercise regimes.

Why the name "Yamuna"?   Yamuna Zake is a visionary:  She is a master teacher and healer who has literally dedicated her life to understanding how the body works and helping others to create positive change in their bodies through what she has learned.  She lives her vision that a fully aligned body with all of its capacity for movement free and available is the most beautiful body possible.  She is committed to sharing with others what it takes to know and love their bodies and be better in them.

Yamuna Body Rolling...for me?  The practice of Yamuna is a great way to begin listening to your body.  It is a stress free way to start positive dialog between your mind and your body, increasing your body awareness and sustainability.  Benefits include:  improved posture, increased range of motion, improved alignment in all parts of the body, increased muscle tone, increased flexibility, increased organ function.  Learn the Yamuna tools for self healing... Empower yourself with the tools necessary to be healthy and comfortable in the body you have.

Consider joining in on one of Melanie's Yamuna workshops this month at IIM...

An Introduction to the HAKOMI Method...
combining the Eastern traditions of mindfulness and non-violence with a unique, highly effective methodology for personal growth and self-study.

Saturday, October 17th ~ 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM
Sunday, October 18th ~ 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM

A workshop for psychotherapists, counselors, social workers, health care workers, healing arts practitioners, and students in these fields, and individuals seeking to experience the Hakomi Method.  ( 12 NASW and NBCC CEs, 13.2 Nursing contact hours through the Institute for Integrative Medicine, an approved provider through the KY Board of Nursing)

The Hakomi Method combines the Eastern traditions of mindfulness and non-violence with a unique, highly effective methodology for personal growth and self-study.

Hakomi is mindful, experiential body-centered psychotherapy.  The body's structures and habitual patterns become a powerful doorway to unconscious core material, including the hidden core beliefs that shape our lives, relationships, and self-images.

By working with direct experience, the Hakomi Method quickly accesses this core material, allowing it to emerge safely into consciousness.  Once conscious, it can be re-evaluated, and where appropriate, powerfully transformed.  New dimensions of awareness can be integrated, helping the individual to build a more satisfying and effective life.

Written and Directed by Nelson Campbell and including the producer and writer of FORKS OVER KNIVES, the film examines the political and economic factors that suppress information on the benefits of plant-based nutrition, while making the connections of this idea to larger issues such as medical practice, farming, and food deserts.  The film's story follows three people working to spread the word about one of the most important health breakthroughs of all time.

The filmmakers hope to use PLANTPURE NATION to create a broad grassroots movement.  PLANTPURE NATION FOUNDATION, a nonprofit organization, will establish local chapters called PLANTPURE PODS in cities and towns across North America.  Members of these chapters will help to plant seeds of change around the message of plant-based nutrition in their communities.

PLANTPURE NATION was filmed across the USA and features Steve Forbes, Jr. (Editor-in-Chief Forbes Magazine), Dr. T. Colin Campbell (Co-Author, The China Study), Dr. Neal Barnard (Founder and President, Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine), Dr. Michael Greger (Director of Public Health and Animal Agriculture, Humane Society of the United States), leading the list of world-renowned experts, doctors and authors who speak on the topic.

Considerable parts of the film were filmed in Louisville, including during the PlantPure Rally, summer of 2014.  You might see someone you know!

"During PurpleLight, there will be a ceremony that includes a reading of names honoring survivors and remembering those we've lost to the disease.  Join us in illuminating glow sticks as loved ones' names are read aloud and the night sky is lit purple."
"PurpleLight is a free event and open to the public.  However, we thank you for considering a donation as a way to support our ongoing efforts in the fight against pancreatic cancer.  By registering, you will have the opportunity to submit the name of a loved one to be honored in the ceremony.  If you are unable to attend, but still wish to have a name read, you can submit the name on the PurpleLight registration form."
