Give AND Receive'Til Your Heart's Content!
Greetings & Notes from KIM EVANS - December 2015

Happy December!  Happy Holidays! Our theme this month is: Give AND Receive 'til your heart's content!  It's so fun to give this time of year.  It's a bit more challenging for many, to receive.  See my Health Tip (or watch the Health Tip Video) to learn more about giving AND receiving this season.  Be generous with your gift of presence (not just presents) and love!  Intentionally appreciate the richness of the Holiday rituals, family gatherings and precious relationships with which you are so blessed!

This month we are celebrating and recognizing ALL the practitioners at IIM.  We are grateful to work together and to have a team of such skilled practitioners who can help with ALL your health needs.  If there's a treatment or session you've been wanting, consider asking "Santa" for a gift certificate to IIM!  What a great stocking stuffer!

Don't forget to adjust your health care savings account or flexible spending dollars, which can be used for all of our services.  (Even supplements as long as I write a prescription for them!)  This can save you money as you create your optimal health.

Join us in one of our ongoing classes!  It will do your body, mind, soul and Spirit good!  There is something for everyone!

On behalf of all the IIM practitioners, we wish you and your family a very happy, Blessed Holiday Season.

Love,
Kim
GIVE AND RECEIVE 'TIL YOUR HEART'S CONTENT! ~ DECEMBER * 2015

"The universe operates through dynamic exchange - giving and receiving are different aspects of the flow of energy in the universe.  And in our willingness to give that which we seek, we keep the abundance of the universe circulating in our lives."

What is C-IMT?
C-IMT or Carotid-Intima Media Thickness assessment is an easy and painless procedure now available to you.  C-IMT is without risk or side effects and is more predictive than any other screening available.  For decades ultrasound has helped physicians "see" developments and problems inside people's bodies.  Combining ultrasound images with recent computer software advancements, we can measure and analyze critical regions inside our blood vessels like never before.  Measuring the C-IMT allows us to take a literal snapshot of a person's vascular health.  This analysis is sophisticated enough to assess your individual risk.  It can detect the early stages of heart disease, even in teenagers.

Now you can take a proactive approach and be screened for cardiovascular abnormalities quickly, conveniently and inexpensively.  If detected early, Cardiovascular disease can be prevented.

Make your health a priority.  $150 includes consult with Kim Evans.  FSA/HSA eligible expenses.  Schedule your visit for Thursday, December 17th!  502.253.4554

What we're reading this month:
Joseph's Journey by Susan Rea Caldwell
*This is a sweet story about the journey that Mary and Joseph took from Nazareth to Bethlehem when Baby Jesus was born.  It's a great time of year to read this endearing story from Mary and Joseph's perspective.
*Out of the Box - A Soul's Surprising Journey by Barbara Lucerne Woolley
This is another book by a local author who shares many wonderful Divine synchronicities and how they've impacted and guided her life to one of "awe" inspiration.  She truly gets the purpose of our lives as "Spiritual beings having human experiences."  It's a fascinating book.      ~  Kim
IIM HEALTH TIP OF THE MONTH ~ DECEMBER * 2015

Health Tip:
Give AND Receive 'Til Your Heart's Content!

Welcome to December! -
Our theme this month is Give AND Receive 'til your heart's content!   This season is so fun to give - it's especially fun to do random acts of kindness.  It's so fun to do something nice when people are not expecting it!  It does your heart good!!!  It's also good and if you're like me, it's a bit harder to receive.  However this also is so important!!  When we receive, it gives others a chance to have that "feel good feeling of giving!"  So allow others to contribute to you and accept gifts lovingly with gratitude!

Consider giving and receiving this season not just in monetary physical gifts, but also with your love.  Do you ever look so forward to the Holiday seasons and events only to be disappointed because someone in your family said something or did something that rubbed you the wrong way?  This season give and receive your gift of love and patience.  Love them just the way they are without expecting them to be different.  As Byron Katie states, "when you argue with reality, you lose!  But only 100% of the time."  So love what IS this season and generously give and receive your gifts of love however that may be expressed for you!

Stay healthy and have a blessed holiday season!  Give and receive 'til your heart is content!

Here's an additional Holiday Health Tip!

This month I have an additional Health Tip!
I want to share a few ideas on eating healthy through the Holidays...

Several years ago, I would notice that I would always get sick right during the Holidays.  As I reflected, I realized that I was eating a healthy diet all through the year.  Then the holidays would come and I'd eat more sugar, sweets or less healthy foods than my normal diet.  Next thing you know, I'd be sick.
Don't feed into ( pun intended!) your holiday temptations of more sugar, alcohol or high calorie desserts.  If you just can't resist, limit your consumption to one small bite or one small piece of that cookie or pie.  Sugar will weaken your immune system.  Also we are finding that most people are reactive to wheat and gluten.  These can cause an inflammatory response in your GI tract affecting the microbiota.  Next thing you know, you are sick.  Remember - nothing tastes as good as being healthy feels.  Here are 3 things to help you continue a healthy diet during the Holidays.
  1.  Eat healthy foods before you go to a Holiday party.  You'll be much less likely to be tempted by unhealthy foods.
  2.  Take a healthy option to your Holiday gatherings.  Here is one of my favorite Holiday dishes - pumpkin dip.  The recipe is included in this newsletter.
  3.  Focus on giving AND receiving love in your relationships at the Holiday parties.  Let that be the main focus instead of the food and drinks.

So stay healthy and have a blessed holiday season!
  ~ Kim Evans

I'VE GOT YOUR BACK! ~ DECEMBER * 2015
 I've Got Your Back ~ December * 2015

This month we are excited to share Debbie's story!  She came to see me a few years ago for cardiovascular management.  She had a previous history of breast cancer and a strong family history of heart disease.  When she went to her PCP mid-2014 her cholesterol was mildly elevated so her Dr. prescribed Lipitor, which is a statin drug.

Six months later, she came to see me and was very upset because even though her total cholesterol and LDL were significantly lower (134 and 39 respectively {normal cholesterol is <200 and LDL is <100}), her fasting blood sugars were rising (up to 130-140, {normal is <100}), her thyroid was stressed (indicating hypothyroidism) and her liver enzymes were elevated (liver strain).  Her Dr. now wanted to prescribe two additional medications - Synthroid (for her thyroid) and Metformin (to help reduce her blood sugar levels).

I have long since believed that there is a point at which driving the cholesterol too low is problematic, which can affect other organ functions and alter body chemistries.  I reviewed her daily food intake and discussed how to get back to her heart-healthy nutrition plan.  I also recommended that she stop the Lipitor.

In 12 weeks, her cholesterol came back to a more normal level of 217 with an LDL of 130.  Her thyroid, liver enzymes and blood sugars all normalized.  We created a plan to keep her cholesterol controlled with fish oil, Raw Nattokinase and Time-released Niacin.  She is feeling well and avoided 3 prescription medications!  Way to go Debbie!

Thanks to each of you who are joining in our on-going challenge to be able to say "I've Got Your Back..."  If you have a story that you would like to share, please send it to me.  ~ Kim Evans

McCoy, The Transformation Institute - Holistic Life Healer, as she sponsors The Healing Touch Spiritual Ministry Program (HTSM).  This is an educational program dedicated to offering classes in the energetic therapy modality of Healing Touch (HT) as well as providing support for Healing Touch students, practitioners and instructors.  The Healing Touch Program curriculum and teaching materials enhance the students learning experience and insure a consistent, informed and complete education in Healing Touch.  Our program teaches the sacred healing art that flows from the love and compassion we have for one another.  Our philosophy of caring forms the basis of our teaching - we are all instruments for the healing energies of God.  We promote the art of healing as well as the art of spiritual presence practiced by all those in a healing ministry/practice.

Jan 16:  Introduction to Healing Ministry
(HTSM 101) This one day course details the history of healing in Christianity with the opportunity to experience the laying-on of hands.  It presents related scriptures for healing work; history of healing in the Judeo-Christian path; role of centering and intention in healing work for centering and connecting to God.
Jan 17:   Introduction to Judeo-Christian Anointing (HTSM 102)  This one day course incorporates related Biblical scriptures for the use of essential oils for healing and wholeness; Christian rituals and traditions of anointing through history; how essential oils are healing for body/mind/soul; principles and practice of the laying on of hands with anointing and blessing of the senses.
Course Instructor:  Pat Springer  is a holistic nurse healer specialized in critical care, pediatrics, cardiology, and emergency room.  She holds certifications in Healing Touch as a practitioner from the Healing Touch Program, as a practitioner and instructor in the Healing Touch Spiritual Ministry program, and as a Certified Clinical Aromatherapist from the NAHA approved school taught by Rafael d'Angelo in Aurora, CO.  She maintains a private practice in which energy healing, prayer and anointing with oils is an integral part of care.  Professional memberships include:  Alliance for International Aromatherapy, National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy and American Holistic Nurses Association.

What is the Healing Touch Spiritual Ministry Program?  The Healing Touch Spiritual Ministry program is an energy based therapeutic approach to health and healing built upon a Christian philosophy of caring. It integrates prayer, hands-on (energetic) healing and anointing with healing oils.  We offer a program that is multi-level based in the Judeo-Christian scriptures.  Students may apply for a national certification at the completion of all of the coursework.  Designed within the nursing profession, Healing Touch Spiritual Ministry has a spiritual focus that uses touch to promote physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health and healing.  The program is open to everyone.  Who can benefit in taking a class?  Registered nurses in parish nursing, ministers in parish and pastoral ministries, chaplains and nurses in hospitals, nursing homes and hospices, massage therapists, counselors, and the lay community seeking to explore a healing ministry involving the laying on of hands. The Institute of Spiritual Healing & Aromatherapy is a co-provider of nursing continuing education with the Healing Touch Program (HTP).  Healing Touch Spiritual Ministry Program Benefits:  CE's for Nurses and Massage Therapists available through the California Board of Registered Nursing.  Become an HTSM Certified Practitioner - Establish a credible healing presence in your community, church or institution.  Case manage clients in an on-going healing ministry - emphasizing prayer, energy healing and anointing.

Advanced Integrative Therapy ~ Certified Therapist & Teacher
for the AIT BASICS SEMINAR
a 3-Day Seminar for Graduate Level Mental Health Clinicians and Graduate Students who are currently in a supervised clinical placement
This 3-Day Seminar is a prerequisite for all other AIT Seminars.   AIT BASICS provides everything you need to know to begin using AIT in your practice immediately.  Call Cynthia with questions, or for more information.

Advanced Integrative Therapy or AIT, is a dynamic and new in-depth energy psychology that begins from the premise that ALL upsetting events are traumas and are lodged within the body, mind and spirit.  Talking gives us insight into our issues, but often does too little to remove them.  AIT removes the energy within us that is made up of our particular responses to the incidents and patterns that hurt or upset us throughout our lives.  The healing is gentle, effective and complete... promoting psychological, physical and spiritual healing by treating not just the symptoms, but the originating causes of present day difficulties that fracture human wholeness.

AIT integrates the best established and proven psychotherapies, and then adds a new energy psychology element that is body-based. This simply and gently addresses and clears those aspects of the issue in the body, mind, and spirit.  In this way, the issue gets completely resolved!

Incorporate AIT into your therapeutic practice!

Holistic Nursing is all nursing practice that has healing the whole person as its goal - body, mind, spirit, and emotion.

A holistic nurse often integrates alternative practices with conventional healthcare.  Holistic nurses view healing as a therapeutic partnership with the people in their care.

Favorite Holiday Recipes ~
December, 2015

"Mmmmm... Here are two of my favorite Holiday recipes ~ I hope you will enjoy them and share them with your family & friends!
~ Kim Evans

Pumpkin Dip
8 oz. non-dairy (non hydrogenated oil/no high fructose corn syrup) Cool Whip (such as "Truwhip.")
1 - 3 oz. Tofutti (soy cream cheese)
1/2 cup organic powdered sugar
1 cup organic canned pumpkin
1/8 tsp. ginger
1/8 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. cinnamon

Beat cream cheese and sugar ~ stir in pumpkin and spices.  Fold in cool whip.
Serve with your favorite seasonal fruit.

Stuffed Mushrooms
1-2 cartons of large mushrooms that can easily be stuffed.
1 pound chicken Italian sausage (Whole Foods is great and have both mild and hot)
1 8 oz. container of Tofutti (soy cream cheese)
1/2 cup fresh chopped parsley
Parmesan cheese (optional)
Paprika
Seasoned salt and garlic pepper to taste

Clean and prepare mushrooms for stuffing.
Brown the chicken sausage and drain (if needed).  Pour into bowl with the tofutti.  It mixes easily when the chicken sausage is still warm.  Mix in the chopped parsley, 3-4 shakes of paprika, seasoned salt and garlic pepper.  You can also add about 1/4 cup of grated fresh Pamesan cheese to the mixture.

Spoon mixture into each mushroom.  Top them with fresh grated Pamesan cheese.
Cook on 400 for 10-15 minutes (or until mushrooms are done).

Enjoy!!!  This recipe comes from my dear friend Maggie Layne.  She was a nurse extraordinaire who bravely faced ovarian cancer.  I think of her fondly each Thanksgiving and Christmas when I make these mushrooms.

What is Integrative Medicine?  Integrative Medicine is a relatively new field of Medicine.  The University of Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine defines it as "healing-oriented medicine that takes into account the whole person (body, mind, and spirit), including all aspects of lifestyle.  It emphasizes the therapeutic relationship and makes use of all appropriate therapies, both conventional and alternative."  Our approach is leading edge; it makes use of every available tool to set you on the path for optimal health.

Our Philosopy:  The practitioners of 205 Townepark Circle believe in helping people to achieve optimal health in mind, body, and spirit.  Our philosopy is to treat the whole person and to help and support you through many facets of your health and wellbeing.
As Hippocrates said:  "It is much more important to know what sort of a patient has a disease than what sort of a disease a patient has".

END NOTES & QUOTES ~ DECEMBER * 2015
End Notes & Quotes ~ December * 2015

"Oh cosmic Birther of all radiance and vibration!  Soften the ground of our being and carve out a space within us where your Presence can abide.

Fill us with your creativity so that we may be empowered to bear the fruit of your mission.

Let each of our actions bear fruit in accordance with our desire.

Endow us with the wisdom to produce and share what each being needs to grow and flourish.

Untie the tangled threads of destiny that bind us, as we release others from the entanglement of past mistakes.

Do not let us be seduced by that which would divert us from our true purpose, but illuminate the opportunities of the present moment.

For you are the ground and the fruitful vision, the birth-power and fulfillment, as all is gathered and made whole once again."
