NOTE from KIM EVANS -  February 2015

Welcome to our February Newsletter!  Our theme this month is Exercise Your Heart with Love!  Kimberly May explains in our video Health Tip of the Month that the heart is a muscle and can be exercised with Love!  It's a great reminder during this month of Valentine's Day.  So expand your heart energy by exercising it with love.  Love is the one thing that you truly get more of when you give it away!

On February 18th, we are having our first "Self Care 4 Health Care!"  This night is for anyone who works in health care.  We recognize that health care providers are stressed, frustrated, and/or may have some degree of compassion fatigue or burnout.  All of our practitioners here at IIM have blocked the evening from 5:30 - 8:00 PM to offer stress management therapies to our colleagues.  Find out more in this issue.

Don't miss Kimberly May's presentation on HeartMath at Norton Suburban Hospital on Thursday, February 19th from 6:00-7:30 PM.  Finally, we are hosting an introduction to ISHA Inner Engineering on Friday, February 20th at 7:00 PM.  Find out how this technology of yoga, meditation and breathing can help you create a deep sense of inner peace.

Don't forget to Exercise Your Heart with Love!  The more you give, the more you get!
Looking forward to seeing you this month!

Expand Your Heart with Love ~ Love Your Body too!
Avoid Toxic Substances

Treat your body like it is precious, because IT IS!  Avoid substances which can adversely affect your body and your heart, such as hydrogenated oils, saturated fats, alcohol, nicotine, salt and a very common substance, SUGAR.  The average person eats 22 teaspoons of sugar a day.  Each teaspoon of sugar equals 16 calories.  Learn to do the math.  That equals 352 calories!  Would you like to lose some weight before summer?  Simply cut back on your sugar intake, which has NO nutritional value anyway!  Losing weight will help your heart and your body!
Spikes in blood sugar (glucose) levels can be a signal to the body that sugar levels need to be brought to an overall lower level.  When blood sugar levels are high, one way the body adapts is to transform and store the sugar as triglycerides.  Having trouble getting your triglycerides down?  Look at your sugar, refined carbohydrate and processed food intake.
The American Heart Association recommends that no more than 100 calories come from sugar (about 6 teaspoons).  A study published in JAMA (The Journal of the American Medical Association) found that Americans who consumed the most sugar - 25% of their caloric intake - were twice as likely to die from heart disease as those who limited their sugar intake to 6-9 teaspoons.
Love your body and your health!  Cut back on sugar.  Your body (and your heart) will love you for it!
