Celebrate Summer!  Stay "Above the Line!"
Greetings & Notes from KIM EVANS - July 2015

Welcome to July!  It's hard to believe that the lazy days of summer are now upon us!  I hope you've taken time to plant some flowers, vegetables or fruits.  Nothing is more miraculous than watching how sunlight and rain act on little seeds to produce delicious food.  I love pulling off a few stems from my basil plant to add to our salads or entrees.  Our theme this month is " Change Your Stinkin' Thinkin' - Keep your thoughts above the line".  Read (or watch!) our Health Tip of the Month to find out how to do this and why it's important.

Our Practitioner of the Month is Nancy Langan.  We honor Nancy for her healing gifts in massage and CranioSacral therapy.  We wish her well as she takes some time away from IIM to focus on her own healing and well-being.

Check out our classes this month.  We are having a blast doing Nia with Kimberly May.  We continue our ongoing classes of Yoga, Yamuna, Feldenkrais, and Healing Touch.  We have a special guest speaker this month, Randi Rom, who is presenting "Explore your Divine Goddess Energy" on Monday, July 20th at 6:30 PM.

Keep your thoughts positive, stay " above the line" and enjoy this beautiful month of summer!  Have a happy and safe 4th of July!

Love,
Kim

Change Your Stinkin' Thinkin'! Stay "Above the Line!"

We know that where thoughts go, energy flows!  In other words, whatever we focus on is what expands.  Our theme this month is Change Your Stinkin' Thinkin' - Keep Your Thoughts "Above the Line."
Dr. Ginger Bowler created an energy model based on Hanna Kroeger's work.  If you consider that everything is energy with its own unique vibration and frequency response, you can literally create a scale of the frequencies.
Imagine a line right in the middle of the scale:

Everything above the line is a faster, higher frequency, which raises your energy
     vibration and makes you healthier.
                                      ******************************
Everything below the line is a slower, denser energy, which makes you less healthy.

We have 60,000 thoughts per day.  Seventy-five percent of these tend to be negative.  What's more, these thoughts, which are generated in the frontal cortex, trigger the hypothalamus, which houses the pituitary gland that sets off a biochemical response.  Literally your thoughts stimulate and create an internal chemistry.  Wouldn't you rather create the chemistry that positive thoughts generate, such as Endorphins, known as the "feel good" molecules?  You have the choice!  Whenever you notice a negative thought, immediately shift it to a happy thought.  You could think of something or someone for which you are grateful!  So make a commitment to keep your thoughts positive, change your " Stinkin' Thinkin'," and " Stay Above the Line!"

                 Meditation - God - Forgiveness - Harmony - Laughter - Health
Good Food - Prayer - Happiness

************************************************************************************************************
               Anger - Gossip - Jealousy - Fear - Hatred - Addictions - Self Pity

Hope this finds you enjoying a Healthy Summer!   I have been blessed to be a part of the Institute for Integrative Medicine since Kim Evans opened the offices at 205 Townepark Circle in October of 2010.  The services I provide include CranioSacral massage therapy, lymphatic drainage, reflexology and Swedish massage.

We all learned in high school geometry that a triangle (a three-sided object) is the most stable structure of a flat surface, a plane.  (i.e., a three-legged stool is sturdier than a four-legged chair.)  My clients know that I use a triangular model in my practice... which is comprised of the Divine Creator, the client and myself (as facilitator).

                                                                GOD
                                            CLIENT                           NANCY, AS FACILITATOR

Usually I say a silent prayer at both the beginning and the end of a therapeutic session. Sometimes I pray silently for guidance during a client session if I'm just not sure of what I need to do to help facilitate an improvement for my client.  This has been my philosophy since I became a licensed massage therapist.  It's provided me a stable, repeatable and reliable approach to my practice.

However, at this time the facilitator part of my working triangle (Me!) is taking a sabbatical to rejuvenate her body, mind and soul in order to continue serving her clients in a therapeutic manner.  So I will be leaving IIM at the end of July for this purpose.  I will continue to keep you in my thoughts and prayers as I begin this journey of rejuvenation and I hope that I hear from all of you during my journey.  (I'm as close as the telephone: (502) 744-4777.)

I sincerely want to thank Kim Evans, who had the vision for IIM, and who included me in that vision.  I have learned and benefited so much from Kim and am so very grateful for the opportunity to be a part of IIM since 2010.  All of the practitioners (Cynthia B., Jerry, Kimberly, Betty, Angie, Yvonne, Melanie, and Dorothy) have been such a blessing to me.  I thank our office manager (Cynthia G.) who is so organized, efficient and makes everyone feel comfortable in her presence.  And I thank Jennifer, who also provides wonderful support at the front office and who graciously and capably took over the publishing of our monthly IIM newsletter from me.  I have so much to be grateful for.  Thank you for many precious memories, IIM.

I'VE GOT YOUR BACK! ~ JULY 2015
I've Got Your Back & Fab Results at IIM ~ July 2015

This month I am excited to highlight one of my patients, Natalie.    She came to me last April with a long-standing history of irritable bowel issues.  She had recently completed nursing school and thought that she was just overly exhausted and stressed.  She had some vague symptoms such as pain in her gallbladder, weight increase, TMJ issues, neck/back pain and no energy.

I did the Cyrex test on her to determine if she had any food sensitivities contributing to a chronic inflammatory state.  Her husband also did the food sensitivity testing to evaluate his own health AND to support his wife in her quest for improved health.
Both did have significant food sensitivity issues.

I discussed with them the benefits of eliminating their triggering foods,
taking probiotics and digestive enzymes,
and eating organic foods in order to eliminate exposure to pesticides, specifically glyphosate.

They both immediately and significantly changed their diet:
eliminating their triggering foods,
taking the probiotics and digestive enzymes,
eating whole foods, organic as much as possible,
limited processed foods and no refined carbohydrates.

She and her husband have both lost weight and have much more energy.  Here were her comments after just 6 weeks of following the recommendations:
" I am feeling 90% better thanks to you and all your wonderful knowledge.  I can't thank you enough for guiding us to a healthier life style and I'm loving it so far!!"

***********************************************************************************************************

Thanks to each of you who are joining in our on-going challenge to be able to say "I've Got Your Back..."  If you have a story that you would like to share, please send it to me.  ~ Kim Evans

CELEBRATE!
July ~ National Blueberry Month
"Long before Fats Domino was crooning about "Blueberry Hill," Native Americans used the potent fruit to treat coughs.  These tiny little gems do indeed pack a potent punch.  They rank the highest of any fruit for antioxidents (those free-radical-fighting powerhouses), and one cup delivers 14% of the recommended daily dose of fiber and nearly a quarter of the recommended daily intake of vitamin C.
North America is still the leading producer of this beloved blue fruit, accounting for up to 90% of the world's supply.  The berry is celebrated throughout July -- the peak of its harvest -- during National Blueberry Month." (excerpted from WebMD)

International Day of Friendship ~
Thursday, July 30th, 2015

"According to the United Nations, the official sponsor of this special day, the International Day of Friendship is a day set aside to promote friendship among peoples, cultures and countries.  Today is a time to encourage efforts toward peace, and to build bridges among different people.  It is a day of respect for others, and a day to celebrate diversity.

On an individual level, use this day to promote friendship in big and small ways.  You can begin by "extending an olive branch" to a sibling or family member, a neighbor, or an old friend who we've had a falling out with.  If we all try just a little the world will be a better, more peaceful place."

"A little history... "The origin of International Day of Friendship has roots as far back as 1919 in the United States.  In 2011, the United Nations declared this an official international day." (excerpted from HolidayInsights.com)

What is Integrative Medicine?  Integrative Medicine is a relatively new field of Medicine.  The University of Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine defines it as "healing-oriented medicine that takes into account the whole person (body, mind, and spirit), including all aspects of lifestyle.  It emphasizes the therapeutic relationship and makes use of all appropriate therapies, both conventional and alternative."  Our approach is leading edge; it makes use of every available tool to set you on the path for optimal health.

Our Philosopy:  The practitioners of 205 Townepark Circle believe in helping people to achieve optimal health in mind, body, and spirit.  Our philosopy is to treat the whole person and to help and support you through many facets of your health and wellbeing.
As Hippocrates said:  "It is much more important to know what sort of a patient has a disease than what sort of a disease a patient has".
