Celebrate the Power of Intention!

Setting intentions can be a powerful way to mobilize universal factors to create results in your life.  Kimberly May shares four important aspects of the Power of Intention:

1.
Write it down.  Something magical happens when you write your intention.  It's a powerful message of your desires to the Universe.

2.  Share it with someone.  Choose someone who will support your desire and intention.

3.  Take action.  This is a critical step to show the Universe that you are serious about your intention.

4.  Acknowledge that you did what you said you were going to do, then take the next step.

A health coach may be the perfect person with whom to share your goals and desires.  A health coach can also keep you accountable on your action steps.  At IIM, we have several wellness coaches to help you wi
th your intentions.

Kim's story ~
I'd like to share a personal experience on the power of intention.  I've used a similar version to Kimberly's:

Intention ~ Write your intention

Attention ~ Put some energy into your Intention

No Tension ~ Then let go and let the Universe handle the details.

In 2009, I knew I was going to visit my daughter in Hawaii.  I also knew that Wayne Dyer lived there and I wanted to meet him.  For years, I have shared his books and CD's with patients and colleagues.  I wanted to thank him for all he had done for me personally and for all of our patients.  So I pasted a picture of myself and of Wayne Dyer on a piece of paper and wrote "I will have lunch with Wayne Dyer while I'm in Hawaii between June 17-July 6th, 2009." (INTENTION)
Then I told Pam McDonald my intention.  She immediately said she would join me.  I wrote Wayne a letter and told him we wanted to meet with him and that we'd be in Maui from June 26-29th.  (ATTENTION)

He wrote me back with a short note that said "See you in June."  Then came the difficult part - letting go.  (NO TENSION)
I wrote him again to let him know where we were staying and to ask for a definitive time to meet but didn't hear anything.  I had to let go, trust the Universe, and keep thinking positively that we would meet him.  The day before we were going to leave, we did meet him and we had no idea just how significant that meeting would be!  It happened to be the same day that he found out that he was diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukemia.  We met with him the next day and talked further about his health.  He ended up becoming a patient of Pam's, did the APO E gene test, got on the right diet and reversed 2 of 8 abnormal blood counts back to normal!  He continues to this day to write books and lecture all over the world!
I had no idea when I wrote that intention just how powerful it would be!

Love,
Kim Evans

The History of IIM:   As I was stepping away from my Critical Care Practice, I listened to a tape of Deepak Chopra's about fulfilling your desires by setting intentions.  My primary thought was setting an intention to change the healthcare system and create a holistic practice that looked at body, mind, and Spirit.  Everything that's happened has happened from there!  The journey to our IIM practice today has been filled with intentions set and fulfilled...
In October of 2010 we had yet another dream fulfilled when the doors to our current office opened! Read more of Kim Evans' story:  www.integrativemedicine4u.com

The Community of Practitioners at IIM:  While holding the intention of creating a community of holistic caregiving, each of my colleagues held the vision with me until the day we began at 205 Townepark Circle.  A lot of divine intervention along the way has brought together the amazing group that is here today...  Kimberly May~Inspire Wellness, Jerry Scott~Holistic Care, Cynthia Bowling~Advanced Integrative Therapy, Angie Megibben~Light Works Yoga, Nancy Langan~Langan Massage Therapeutics, Betty Greaver~Healing Health Concepts, Dorothy Henning~Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner, Reverend Yvonne McCoy~Life Transformation Institute, Melanie Tinsley~Certified Yamuna Body Rolling Practitioner, Victoria Hayden~Metaphysical Meditation, Dr. Clifford Kuhn~The Laugh Doctor, Cynthia Burke Goff~Queen of Client services, Jennifer Hubbard~another gem of Client Services & newsletter creator extraordinaire... together, we are commited to partnering with you in your pursuit of health.

What we offer you: We are here to help you achieve your optimal health in mind, body, Spirit, emotions and energy.  Our healing oriented approach is based on physical, psychological/emotional, spiritual and energetic principles.  We know that healing is innate and we will help identify potential barriers to your optimal health.  You are a partner in our care for you.  No one knows your body as well as you.  We honor and respect you and your body's wisdom.  We want to get to know you and help support you through many facets of health and wellbeing, not just disease care.  As Sir William Osler said, "It is much more important to know what sort of patient has a disease than what sort of disease a patient has."
We hope you'll join us soon!

I'VE GOT YOUR BACK! ~ JUNE 2015
I've Got Your Back & Fab Results at IIM ~ June 2015

This month I'd like to highlight one of our recent patients, Dorothy.  She first came to see me complaining of low energy.  She has a history of hypothyroidism, high cholesterol, and is post-menopausal.  She was on Synthroid and her primary care doctor wanted to put her on a statin for her high cholesterol.
I did an advanced lipid profile which showed a high cholesterol, high amount of small dense LDL (the more dangerous type), and increased inflammation markers.
We also checked a full thyroid panel.
{A common finding with patients on Synthroid (T4 only), is that only the TSH and T4 are evaluated since 80% of our thyroid hormones are T4.  However, T3 is as important if not more so, than T4.  Even though only 20% of our thyroid hormones are in the form of T3, it has a 3-5 times stronger effect in the body than T4.}

When we evaluated Dorothy's entire thyroid panel, her Free T3 was 2.7 pg/ml (ideally it should be over 3.0).
I counseled her on the APO E gene diet and exercise program,
added Coratin (Red yeast rice), fish oil and Raw Nattokinase for her cholesterol,
and Cytomel (T3) for her thyroid.

She eliminated high fructose corn syrup and hydrogenated oils,
increased her intake of fruits and vegetables,
and with her improved energy level was able to exercise more regularly.

She lost 19 pounds over 4 weeks and her repeat cholesterol profile was very impressive!
She continues to follow the APO E diet and exercise program.  Great job Dorothy!!

She is also eliminating wheat and gluten from her diet.  She recently brought us a delicious recipe for gluten free pumpkin muffins.  They are delicious!!!

Dorothy's Gluten Free Pumpkin Muffins

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

Combine:
2 cups sugar (I would use raw organic sugar)
1/2 cup of oil (I commonly substitute applesauce or pureed bananas for oil - use about 3/4 of the amount indicated for oil)
  1 1/2 cups of pumpkin
  1/2 cup of water
3 eggs  (if you would like to omit the eggs, you can add 3 Tblsp yogurt into this wet ingredients combination and 3/4 tsp of Xanthan gum into the dry ingredients below)

In another bowl combine:
1 1/2 cups of rice flour
1 1/2 cups of Arrowhead Mills gluten free pancake and baking mix
  1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  1 tsp baking soda
  1 tsp salt
  1 tsp cinnamon
  1 tsp nutmeg
  1/2 tsp cloves
(Did you omit the eggs?  Add 3/4 tsp of Xanthan gum to this combination)
Optional:  may also add 1/2 cup of walnuts and/or dairy free chocolate chips.

Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients above.
Scoop into cupcake papers.
Bake for 20 minutes in a 400 degree oven.  For mini size muffins, bake 15 minutes.

Celebrate the fathers and father figures in your life!

"Father's Day is observed on the 3rd Sunday of June.  It honors all fathers, grandfathers, great-grandfathers, and father figures for their contribution."

A little history... "Father's Day started in the early 20th century in the United States.  It was first celebrated on June 19th, 1910 in Spokane, WA at the YMCA by Sonora Smart Dodd.  She heard about Mother's Day in 1909 and told her pastor she thought that fathers should have a similar holiday.  Her father raised six children as a single parent.  The local clergyman agreed to the idea and the first Father's Day sermon was given on June 19th, 1910."

Benefits of Daily Zhineng Qigong Practice:  Enhances general health and energy.  Improves immune function.  Activates your natural healing capabilities.  Contributes to longevity, good health and better quality of life.  Improves brain function and mental clarity.  Over time, Qigong practice transforms consciousness and intuitive functioning.
Master Yuantong Liu began studying traditional Qigong at age 8 and was considered a child prodigy.  He completed a masters program at the Hua Xia Zhineng Qigong Center under the direction of Grand Master Pang He Ming.  He became an instructor there and has practiced Zhineng Qigong for the past 29 years.  He devotes his life to offering the benefits of Zhineng Qigong to people around the world.  He has students in China, Tibet, Malaysia, Sweden, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Mexico and the United States.

What is Integrative Medicine?  Integrative Medicine is a relatively new field of Medicine.  The University of Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine defines it as "healing-oriented medicine that takes into account the whole person (body, mind, and spirit), including all aspects of lifestyle.  It emphasizes the therapeutic relationship and makes use of all appropriate therapies, both conventional and alternative."  Our approach is leading edge; it makes use of every available tool to set you on the path for optimal health.

Our Philosopy:  The practitioners of 205 Townepark Circle believe in helping people to achieve optimal health in mind, body, and spirit.  Our philosopy is to treat the whole person and to help and support you through many facets of your health and wellbeing.
As Hippocrates said:  "It is much more important to know what sort of a patient has a disease than what sort of a disease a patient has".

We are excited to partner in your care!

"Spirit has found Great voice in you.  In vibrant truths, and joyful splendor.
Spirit has found Revelation through you, in resonant and reflective ways.
Spirit has found Celebration through you, in infinite expanses and endless reach.
To all those Awakened to the Grace of your gifts -
Spirit has found both Wings and Light."
~ Lynn Hall, excerpted from Dr. Wayne Dyer's book The Power of Intention
