           AUGUST 2017

Shift your dramas and traumas into lessons and blessings!

Greetings & Notes from KIM EVANS - AUGUST 2017!

Welcome to August!!  Didn't school just let out last week for summer vacation?  And now it's already time for everyone to go back to school?!  What a quick summer it's been!  I hope you've taken some moments to stop..., breathe... and appreciate all the beauty around you!  Today is one of those perfect days - low humidity, blue sky and lots of birds chirping away.  Enjoy this last month of summertime!

Our theme this month is Shift Your Dramas and Traumas into Lessons and Blessings.  This is a great reminder for ALL of US!  It's certainly easy to focus on the drama/trauma happening all around us.  At times, it can even feel overwhelming!  However sometimes those dramas and traumas are the access to significant lessons that may even evolve into incredible blessings.  Learn to intentionally shift traumas and dramas into lessons and blessings!  Watch (or read) the Health Tip video below to find out more.

Cynthia Bowling is our Practitioner of the Month!
She is masterful at helping each of us transform traumas and dramas into lessons and blessings with her AIT (Advanced Integrative Therapy) work.  If you've undergone traumatic events that are difficult to manage/overcome, give her a call: 502.553.9843.

On Monday, August 14th, Dorothy Henning will be offering a special Feldenkrais Playshop:  Happy Feet & Ankles! at IIM from 6:30-8:00 PM.  Check in with Dorothy to register and take advantage of this late summer class at IIM that will give your feet a treat! 502.240.7057

We are pleased to be hosting the next Kentuckiana Holistic Nurses Association meeting here at IIM on Tuesday, August 15th from 7:00-8:30 PM.  Kimberly May and I will be presenting the Self Havening Technique.  Please come and learn more about this powerful technique that clears traumas that have become encoded in our nervous system... Remember that anyone can join the Holistic Nurses Association.  You don't have to be a nurse - only have an interest in holistic health of mind, body and Spirit.

Our Yamuna Bone Health Study Group here at IIM is off to a great start!  Thanks to all of you who are joining us on this year-long adventure.  Read more about our early days in this month's Bonus Health Tip section.

You are cordially invited to the debut of my new book:  Transforming Healthcare: Healing You, Me and Our Broken Disease-Care Systems.  Join me this coming Saturday, August 5th from 6:30-7:30 PM at the Seelbach Hotel, 10th floor ballroom.  This book signing is sponsored by the Professional Women's Network.  You'll have the opportunity to meet some amazing women, many of whom are also authors.  My book will be among several that will debut that day.  Come and be one of the first to get your very own signed copy!

Enjoy the rest of your summer.  Allow the beauty of the summer to help shift your dramas and traumas into lessons and blessings!

Love,
Kim Evans

IIM HEALTH TIP OF THE MONTH ~ AUGUST * 2017

Health Tip
:

Shift your dramas and traumas
into lessons and blessings!

Kim Evans:
Welcome to August!  Our theme this month is Shift your dramas and traumas into lessons and blessings!  Isn't that a great thought?  Of course, as humans, we're going to have painful experiences, but we don't have to suffer with these endlessly.  So shift your dramas and traumas into lessons and blessings.  Cynthia is here today to explain how using AIT (Advanced Integrative Therapy) can help us do just that!

Cynthia Bowling:
Thank you, Kim.  Advanced Integrative Therapy, AIT, is a therapy that was developed and expanded by a woman who had extensive therapy training and also wanted to do more and knew there was more that we could do to stop human suffering.  And so what she came up with was the beginning of AIT.  And it truly treats mind, body and Spirit.

For years, many of the psychotherapies concentrated on our minds and although we got relief, there is so much more to it.  The theory is that the suffering that we feel is from the energy that is left from the traumas and upsetting experiences that we've incurred through our life beginning even before we were born.  We don't consciously remember but if upsetting events were happening around us or to our mother, or whatever it might be, then that begins.  And at that point they are unbearable to us and as children the traumas are unbearable.  And so, the energy can get stored in our body if we don't have a way to get rid of it.  And it can go to certain organs that have to do with what the upsetting event is, and then later that can cause a propensity of illness to happen.  For instance, if someone has a heart murmur, it may be that they had a broken heart over and over and over again as a child with no way to help them and so their heart then becomes sensitive and that's where the illness can happen.  That also is a block of our Spirit.  As traumas happen, we get blocked from our center.  We have to start looking out to get our needs met and so we lose touch with our Spirituality and what we truly need and want.  And then that causes mind, body and Spirit blocks and suffering.  So, what AIT does is help people with that.  We identify, we treat it, we clear it and we can also instill positive beliefs and ways to reconnect with our Spirit.

Kim:  That was awesome, Cynthia.  Thank you!
So if you need help shifting your dramas and traumas - clearing it out of your body, your mind or your Spirit - so you can live fully, give us a call.

BONUS Health Tip
:

Yamuna Body Rolling &
The Bone Health Study...

Kim Evans:
Thank you to all of you who have joined our *Yamuna Bone Health Study.  I am loving doing the Yamuna Body Rolling.  I've already noticed a difference in my hamstrings, quadriceps and spinal muscles.  This is an added bonus!
I knew the Yamuna work would help my bones - sure enough, I didn't even require an adjustment at my chiropractor last week.  Yet I've been very pleasantly surprised by how much it's helping my muscles.  My yoga postures (downward dog and hip openers) have even improved.
Thank you Melanie for this work!

If you are interested in finding out more about our bone health study or the benefits of Yamuna, give Melanie Tinsley a call:  502.419.6170.

*We invited anyone who has a history of Osteoporosis or Osteopenia, kyphosis or multiple fractures to join in on our year-long study.  Melanie Tinsley, our Yamuna expert will be showing us the Yamuna program for strengthening the bones of the hips, spine, and legs... which we will be doing during our meetings the 1st & 3rd Wednesdays of each month and 2-3 times weekly at home.  We're very excited to see what happens - empirical evidence has validated a significant improvement in bone density with the Yamuna Bone Health program. ~ Kim Evans

I'VE GOT YOUR BACK ~ AUGUST * 2017

I've Got Your Back ~ August * 2017

This month I would like to tell you about Mrs. T.  She is 75 years old and was diagnosed with ovarian cancer last fall.  She had surgery last September in which they removed her ovaries and fallopian tubes.  (She previously had her uterus removed years ago).  She came to our office to explore ways to support her during her cancer treatment and to help her achieve optimal ongoing health of mind, body and Spirit.
I suggested that she take Cellular Forte to help increase her body's natural killer cells while undergoing chemotherapy.  Her white blood cells remained acceptable all during her chemotherapy treatment.

One of her main concerns after her treatment was ongoing hot flashes.  When I saw her this past June, she stated she was feeling miserable.  Not only was she continuing to have hot flashes but her weight had increased by 20 pounds since December (and she is a small framed woman).
I reviewed her medications and found that two of the three medications that she had been prescribed for her hot flashes caused weight gain.  When she realized this, she said "I'd rather have the hot flashes!  At least I could keep a cool rag on my neck!"
I created a schedule for her to wean off the three medications and called the providers who had originally prescribed them to let them know she wanted to cease taking them.

She had also been prescribed a statin medication even though her cholesterol was only mildly elevated (234) with a very high good cholesterol (HDL - 99).  She was very glad when I told her she could manage her cholesterol with diet, exercise and fish oil.

I saw her again 3 weeks later.
She was off all 4 medications and said she felt great and had already begun to lose weight!  She is making healthy choices in her diet and has returned to her Pilates class.  Way to go, Mrs. T!

Kim Evans & Kimberly May will present the Self Havening Technique.
Please come and learn about this powerful technique!  It is an incredibly effective technique to clear traumas that have been encoded in our nervous system.  When a trauma occurs, pathways become encoded in our nervous system.  Subsequent triggers stimulate the same pathway resulting in the fear, trauma, panic and negative emotions associated with the original traumatic event.  The Havening Technique helps to break the encoding.  You may have a memory of the traumatic event but it will no longer trigger the intense emotional reaction.

What is Holistic Nursing?
