           DECEMBER 2017

We make a living by what we get...
We make a life by what we give.

Greetings & Notes from KIM EVANS - DECEMBER 2017
Welcome to December!  Happy Holidays!  Great month to snuggle under a warm blanket in front of a fireplace.  We have been so blessed with warm temperatures this season that now the coldness feels like Alaska!  Our theme this month is a quote that's been attributed to Winston Churchill:  We make a living by what we get... We make a life by what we give.  Isn't this a beautiful theme for December?  It reminds us of the importance of giving.  It's one of the great paradoxes of life - we receive so much more when we give.

It's hard to believe this is the last month of 2017!  Give yourself the gift of a few minutes each day to reflect on the miracles and joys this year has brought.  Perhaps some of your "miracles" were not all joyful - but provided significant opportunities for growth and learning.  Give yourself the gifts of patience, love, understanding -  and be grateful for those moments too.

Here are other ideas to think about giving:
     *  Invite a neighbor and treat them to lunch, dinner or coffee.
     *  Give a gift to support the "Angel Tree" sponsored by your community or
     *  Give your time and volunteer to serve at the Ronald McDonald House or one of
         our city's homeless shelters.
     *  Give your time to visit an elder in a nursing home or assisted living facility.

Enjoy giving in this last month of the year!
Happy Holidays from all of us at IIM.

Kim Evans

What We're Reading Now...
The Vaccine-Friendly Plan - by Paul Thomas MD and Jennifer Margulis, PhD
" This is the most common sense approach to addressing vaccination issues that I've read.  It's evidence-based and supported by years of clinical research and the benefit of Dr. Thomas' 31 years' experience in his pediatric practice.  Finally, I feel that I have solid answers to guide young mothers when they ask, "Should I vaccinate my child or not?" ~ Kim Evans

"An accessible and reassuring guide to childhood health & immunity from a pediatrician who's both knowledgeable about the latest scientific research and respectful of a family's risk factors, health history, and concerns."

"We make a living by what we get... We make a life by what we give."

Kim Evans:
Welcome to December!  Our theme this month is a quote attributed to Winston Churchill.  We make a living by what we get... We make a life by what we give.  I love this theme for December when giving is so prevalent in our thinking - whether it's giving gifts or just spending time with loved ones and offering your gift of presence.

This season give your body the gift of whole, healthy food.  It's so easy to get off course from our regular diets this time of year.  Yet when we indulge in excessive sugar or alcohol, this weakens our immune system - especially at a time when colds and flus are most prevalent.

Give your mind the gift of rest and relaxation.  This helps to restore your body and your mind.

Spiritually, give the gift of Love.  Make a commitment to be love and understanding to everyone you encounter this season.  Perhaps this habit will stay with you for the entire next year!

From all of us at the Institute for Integrative Medicine, we wish you a joyful Holiday season with lots of giving!

"It is not how much we give, but how much love we put into giving."

*Bonus Health Tip Give your body the gift of healthy foods over the Holidays!

Kim Evans:
Last Sunday, we had our annual Holiday party with IIM Practitioners and staff.  I roasted a turkey that I purchased at Whole Foods and seasoned it  with celery, onions, an apple and multiple spices.  It was delicious!  Everyone brought a healthy dish.  The food tasted soooo good.  I took this picture to show how beautiful and healthy the plates looked!  The quinoa salad, green beans and Brussel sprouts were very tasty.  The "mashed potatoes" were actually cauliflower.  The cornbread was made from Bloomfield Farms gluten-free cornbread mix.  You CAN eat healthy and have a delicious holiday meal!

New Immunization Regulations
in Kentucky

Kim Evans:
Did you know that the Kentucky Legislature passed an amended Immunization Regulation regarding immunization schedules for attending child day care centers, certified child care homes, other licensed facilities which care for children, preschool programs, and public/private primary and secondary schools?  These new requirements are the guidelines that will be enforced for the 2018-2019 school year.
Immunizations remain a fiercely debated subject in traditional medicine.  I encourage all parents to do your own research.  You can decline a vaccination in KY by signing the "Declination on Religious grounds to Required Immunization" form (link to form listed below), and having a notary witness your sworn statement under oath and your signature.  It's no longer possible to decline immunizations based on scientific or philosophical data.  It is also no longer necessary to have a form signed by your primary care provider.
Watch for future newsletters and I'll list my general recommendations regarding vaccines.

I've Got Your Back... ~ DECEMBER 2017
This month I want to introduce you to my friend, Soozie Eastman.  She is a dynamic young film director/producer (from the Ville!) who is passionate about educating us on our exposure to toxic chemicals through food, household products and personal care items.

She decided to use herself as a guinea pig and find out if avoiding common toxic products would help her carry less chemicals in her own body system.  She created the film Overload - America's Toxic Love Story to share the results.

Due to some unforeseen circumstances, one of her generous donor supporters was unable to honor their commitment.  She is only $3,000 away from completing this project.  Here is a trailer on her upcoming film and a link if you feel compelled to GIVE a tax-deductible donation for a worthy cause.  This film could make a huge difference for you and your family's health!

Let's have Soozie's back and help her jump back into production.  She is only 6 weeks away from completion!
