           JULY 2016

"Whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the Universe is unfolding as it should."
~ Max Ehrmann

Greetings & Notes from KIM EVANS - JULY 2016
Welcome to July!  The lazy days of summer are finally here!!  I love this time of year!!  The Farmer's Markets are thriving with beautiful fruits and vegetables.  I hope you were able to enjoy a nice fireworks celebration!
Our theme this month is excerpted from Max Ehrmann's poem, " Desiderata."  My favorite line from this poem is Whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.  I have had to remind myself of this on more than one occasion!  I find this inspiring and comforting to know that things are always in Divine order - even when we can't totally understand some of the events that occur.  Be sure to watch the Health Tip video to hear more!

I hope you get to spend some time in nature this summer.  Kentucky has so many parks, camping and recreational facilities.  Take advantage of the beauty right around us!  See my additional Health Tips for outdoor safety!

Enjoy July!  And remember -
Whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Kim Evans

What we're reading this month:

A Mind of Your Own by Kelly Brogan, M.D.
Author Kelly Brogan:  "I believe it's time for a meaningful revolution in healing.  In my new book, A Mind of Your Own, I reveal truths about women's depression, how to holistically recover without a single prescription, and how to self-empower to reclaim your life."

"As far as possible... be on good terms with all persons."

Health Tip:
"Whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the Universe is unfolding as it should." ~ Max Ehrmann

Welcome to July - Our theme this month is excerpted from the Max Ehrmann poem, "Desiderata."

My favorite line is "Whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the Universe is unfolding as it should."  I understand the "Law of Attraction" - that whatever energy you put out is what you attract back to you - what you sow, you reap, etc.  But sometimes things just happen that we don't readily understand.  You may have the feeling, "Really, God, could this truly be happening to me?"  Perhaps you've been let go at your job.  Perhaps your relationship has ended.  Yet on some level, I believe that our Souls agree on some level to go through certain experiences for the greater good - even if we can't see that greater good in the present moment.  If we can just hang on and trust God and truly know that things are unfolding as they should, it may give us the courage and strength to persevere these difficult times.  Things are probably already underway for events to unfold that you never expected.  Perhaps a better job or more fulfilling relationships.
As Bobbi, my colleague, used to remind me, we don't have to like it!  So hang in there and trust the Divine Process..."Whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the Universe is unfolding as it should."  It doesn't mean we have to like it.  Trust God.  Trust the process.  And remember if you need help getting through these difficult times, give us a call.

Additional Health Tip!

Outdoor safety...
Louisville summers can be very hot and humid. The weather is great for creating plush trees, flowers and gardens, but can also lead to excessive heat indices.  It's easy to become dehydrated before you even realize it.  Dehydration can lead to headaches, migraines, dizziness, lightheadedness and fainting.  Be sure to drink plenty of water.  Our basic recommendation for water is half your weight in ounces per day.  If you weigh 150 pounds, you need at least 75 ounces of water.  Add an extra glass for every caffeinated beverage that you drink.  Adding fruit such as oranges, strawberries or blueberries can transform your water to a refreshing spritzer!  Add a sprig of mint or cucumbers for other refreshing ways to drink water.

Protect your skin by using sunscreen.  Many people are great about applying sunscreen initially, but then may forget to reapply every couple of hours.  Sun damage can rear its ugly head years later as skin cancers, so be sure to take heed and use an SPF of at least 50 for your body and 100 for your face.

Please wear a helmet when biking, rollerblading, skating, horseback riding or riding on a
motorcycle.  This can literally be the difference between life and death should an accident occur.

Enjoy your time outdoors this July!

 I've Got Your Back ~ July * 2016

Here is an interesting story that happened this past month.
I've been working with Michael for a couple of years.  He first came to see me complaining of frequent sore throats, attention deficit disorder (ADD), digestive issues and frequent rashes on his face.  We did the Cyrex test and found that he was very sensitive to wheat and gluten, which he completely eliminated from his diet.  His health improved significantly.  He was able to wean from his ADD medication, have clarity and focus that he had not enjoyed in years and has not been sick for over a year.  On a recent follow up visit, he told me that he can readily tell within minutes if he has eaten something to which he's reactive.  His face will flush and develop a diffuse rash on his cheeks.  He added that he really misses pizza and an occasional beer.  He told me that he was getting ready to go to Spain on a vacation with his wife.  I told him that he would probably be able to have pizza and an occasional beer in Spain.  In Europe, products such as glyphosate, which is a pesticide, are banned.  Here in the U.S., glyphosate is sprayed on most wheat and gluten to dessicate the wheat to prepare it for harvesting.  Glyphosate has been shown to wreak havoc in the microbiota of the small intestine, thus contributing to leaky gut (intestinal permeability).  Michael said he would know within minutes if he could tolerate it or not.

Sure enough, Michael emailed me from Spain and said he was enjoying a pizza and beer.  He also mentioned that another woman on his tour was sensitive to wheat and gluten.  She too was able to eat wheat and gluten without the problems she experienced when eating such products in the U.S.  For some time now, I have felt there was a relationship between glyphosate exposure and the large numbers of Americans sensitive to wheat and gluten.

Great to hear of your happy travels, Michael!

Thanks to each of you who are joining in our on-going challenge to be able to say "I've Got Your Back..."  If you have a story that you would like to share, please send it to me.  ~ Kim Evans

Massage therapy has many health benefits and has much research to make it a science based practice.  Massage has physical, mental and emotional benefits.  Just a few of the benefits of massage are:

1.  promotes relaxation due to stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system
2.  can help with back pain management
3.  promotes better sleep
4.  can decrease migraine frequency
5.  can reduce muscle tension throughout the body but particularly those tight shoulder and neck muscles.
Plus, SO much more.
