           JULY 2017

Embrace Sustainability!

Greetings & Notes from KIM EVANS - JULY 2017!

I hope you all had a BLAST watching the fireworks and participating in 4th of July events this week!  We sure enjoyed the Holiday events.  We have lots of exciting things happening this month.  Our theme is around Sustainability.  An old English proverb states:  Use It Up - Wear It Out; Make It Work or Do Without!  Our muscles, joints, and bones don't have to wear out, lose function or deteriorate as we get older.  This month we are focusing on methods and practices to "sustain" healthy joints, muscles and bones.

Melanie Tinsley is our Practitioner of the Month.  She is a registered nurse who sustained a low back injury years ago while lifting a patient.  After years of suffering with low back pain, she was introduced to Yamuna during one of her Yoga classes.  She found that 45 minutes of Yamuna provided pain relief that she had not appreciated in years!  With the help of Yamuna body rolling, Melanie has been able to continue her work as a practicing nurse and has since become a certified Yamuna instructor.

We have lots of exciting classes coming up!
  *  On Wednesday, July 19th, Melanie Tinsley is beginning a Bone Health group.  This is for anyone who has or who wants to prevent osteoporosis.  Melanie will share a Yamuna program to strengthen and improve bone density.  I am very excited to participate in this since my own bone density has decreased over the past couple years.  The class will be at IIM from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.  See further details later in this newsletter.

  *  On Saturday, July 22nd, my niece Natalie Clements is presenting on Beautycounter products.  Not only are these products environmentally friendly (to help sustain a healthy planet), but most importantly they are non-toxic for your skin (the largest organ of the body)!  This presentation will be held at the home of Lynn Kaufman from 3:00-4:30 PM:  816 Meremont Ridge Road, Louisville, KY  40245-5360. Contact Natalie at 640.8184 to register.  See the Community Events section of this newsletter for more details & Natalie's heartfelt reasons for working with Beautycounter.

  *  On Tuesday, July 25th, Judy Minogue will be presenting a talk on hormone health and the use of bio-identical hormone replacement therapy.  It will be held at the Louisville Compounding Pharmacy - 4014 Dutchmans Lane at 6:00 PM.  The cost is $20.00 (prepaid).  Call 894-4464 to register.

  *  Mark your calendars now for Tuesday, August 1st.  Betty Greaver will be presenting "After Cancer Care."  I am really excited about this class.  Typically, after one survives cancer they are told - "Ok, go back to your life."  How is that possible after such a diagnosis?  Nothing is EVER the same.  Join Betty to find out how to create healthy habits to decrease your risk of cancer recurrence and to achieve your optimal health of mind, body and Spirit.

  *  Last but not least... Drum roll please!!!! Mark your calendars now for Saturday, August 5th!  Join me at the Seelbach Hotel from 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM for my official debut book signing.  It's finally happening.  My book - Transforming Healthcare: Healing You, Me and Our Broken Disease-Care Systems will be launched that day.  Come and be one of the first to get your very own copy!

Enjoy the month!  Make it a point to help sustain our planet earth by recycling, conserving energy usage, and appreciating the beauty around us.  Find ways to sustain your healthy habits, your positive attitude and your loving Spirit!

Love,
Kim Evans

IIM HEALTH TIP OF THE MONTH ~ JULY * 2017

Health Tip:

Welcome to July! Our theme this month is around Sustainability.

An English Proverb states:  "Use it up, wear it out.  Make it do or do without."

Kim:
Let's look at this from the perspective of body, mind and Spirit.  We think as we get older that it's just part of the aging process that our bones, muscles and joints might wear out.  But it doesn't have to be that way!  Yamuna Body Rolling is a great way to sustain the health of our muscles, bones and joints.  Melanie is here today to tell us more about that.

Melanie:  Thanks, Kim.  Yamuna Body Rolling is an excellent modality for sustainability.  When we think about the mind, body and Spirit, Yamuna works through the mind, by bone stimulation which releases calcitonin, giving the body an overwhelming feeling of well-being.  The education through the body rolling actually retrains the body, releases the muscle tendons and gives you more comfort and wellbeing.  As you increase your function and decrease your pain, your body is free, your Spirit is free from pain and you're able to look out beyond yourself.

Kim:  So if you need help sustaining the health of your body, mind and Spirit, give us a call!

I'VE GOT YOUR BACK ~ JULY * 2017

We've Got Your Back ~ Sustaining Our Mother Earth ~ July * 2017

On our recent vacation to Hawaii, we had the great fortune to be there for the homecoming return of the Hokule'a, Hawaii's iconic voyaging canoe which had just completed a 3-year trip AROUND THE WORLD!  This incredible canoe is sailed without modern instrumentation and instead the navigators utilize the traditional techniques of wayfinding similar to their Polynesian ancestors.  The canoe is navigated solely on a complex understanding of the stars, the winds, the waves and other cues from Nature.

The mission of the Malama Honua Worldwide voyage was to "weave a lei of hope around the world through sharing indigenous wisdom, groundbreaking conservation and preservation initiatives while learning from the past and from each other, creating global relationships, and discovering the wonders of the Island Earth."

The canoe sailed over 60,000 miles (since May, 2014), visited 150 ports and 23 countries.  The message world-wide was clear:  the oceans are fragile.  The health of the oceans impact not only our earth, but everyone
living on the earth.  We must be good stewards and preserve our oceans, our earth for future generations.  The purpose of the voyage was to spread the message of Malama Honua (caring for Island Earth) by promoting environmental consciousness, fostering learning environments, bringing together island communities and growing a global movement toward a more sustainable world.

What products are you putting on your Face, Hair, Skin and Body?
Sustainability means using healthy products that are non-toxic to ourselves AND our environment.  My niece, Natalie Clements, has recently joined a company called Beautycounter that is committed to creating safe, environmentally-friendly products for body, hair and skin care.  Here is a personal note that I received from her recently.  Some of you may recall that her Mother, Laura, (my sister-in-law) died from cancer 5 years ago at age 50.
~ Kim Evans

"Hi friends and family!
As you all know, my Mom passed away from liver cancer 5 years ago.  My Mom's cancer was in no way a genetic issue, which means that it was something environmental that caused her death.  My Mom was the healthiest person I know!  She ate so well, worked out every day and even ran in multiple mini marathons.  I believe that some of what caused my Mom's cancer may have been related to the many chemicals she put on her hair and skin every day from her beauty products.
Beautycounter is a company whose mission is to put safer products into the hands of consumers.  Did you know that each day the average American woman puts about 12-20 chemicals on her skin?  These toxins can lead to scary issues with development, fertility and cancer.  The last time laws were put in place regarding what can be put into our daily products was 1938!  Over the past two decades, the European Union has banned more than 1,300 chemicals in the product formulas of personal care products and restricted the levels of over 250 more.  The United States has only partially banned 30 to date.
Beautycounter has a Never List on their website of chemicals that you will never see in their products.  They are committed to educating and empowering people to make healthier choices in their skin and hair care products.  This is the reason I am with this company.  I am so excited to share this information with you.  Browse my personal website to learn more."  www.beautycounter.com/natalieclements

If you would like to learn more about the products, Natalie and her aunt Lynn Kaufman, (Laura's sister) are hosting a Beautycounter shopping event on Saturday, July 22nd at 3:00 PM at Lynn's home.  816 Meremont Ridge Road, Louisville, KY  40245-5360.  If you would like to attend, call Natalie at 640.8184.  I'll see you there!  Love, Kim
