           JUNE 2017

Let Your Light Shine!

Greetings & Notes from KIM EVANS - JUNE 2017!
It's summertime!  Welcome to June!  In honor of the summer solstice, our theme this month is Let Your Light Shine!  I sooo love this time of year - lots of sunshine and blue skies.  It's a great time to be outside enjoying favorite outdoor activities such as boating, hiking, biking, tennis, and walking/jogging.

With all the rain we've had lately, gardens are flourishing!  Thanks to the generosity of Kimberly May, who allowed us to share her garden space, we are enjoying an abundance of kale, collard greens and broccoli.  I've enjoyed making kale salad (recipe comes from Andrew Weil and is a favorite in his True Foods Kitchen restaurants!  - See the recipe later in this newsletter).

I am excited to announce the start of another wonderful program at IIM - a bone health program for anyone who has a history of osteopenia or osteoporosis.  Full disclosure - this offer is being extended with a bit of a selfish motive.  Two years ago, I had a dexascan that revealed osteopenia (beginning to lose bone density).  I judiciously took Osteoprime and Ostivone for 2 years.  I had a repeat dexascan done this past March and was very disappointed to learn that my bone density had worsened instead of improved. :(   My Dr. and GYN nurse practitioner both wanted to prescribe a bi-phosphonate drug to prevent further development of osteoporosis.  I decided to seek other options first and asked Melanie Tinsley if Yamuna had a program.  It turns out they do!  As Melanie and I discussed it, we thought it would be a great idea to extend this offer to any of you who may have osteopenia/osteoporosis and are seeking options to improve your bone density.  Read further details later in the newsletter.

Enjoy June.  And remember - in honor of the summer solstice, Let your light shine!
Radiate YOUR
LOVE and LIGHT throughout the month!

Kim Evans

What we are reading:

Your Bones - How YOU Can Prevent Osteoporosis & Have Strong Bones For Life - Naturally  by Lara Pizzorno, MA, LMT with Jonathan V. Wright, MD

"I was diagnosed with osteopenia in my very early 50s.  Today, I have strong, healthy bones, which I credit to having done everything recommended in this book. (The photo on the back cover... is of me, Your Bones co-author Lara, aged 60, on a Mother's Day hike in Stehekin, Washington.)  I am genetically at very high risk for osteoporosis, but I will now be the first woman in my family in all the generations I know about not to die an osteoporosis-related death.  You, too, can have strong, healthy bones for life."  ~ Lara Pizzorno

"How timely - are you interested in joining Melanie Tinsley & me as we explore further bone density improvement options via Yamuna?"  ~ Kim Evans

Health Tip:

Welcome to June! In honor of the Summer Solstice, our theme this month is "Let your light shine!"
Let's look at "light" from the body, mind and Spirit perspective.

Body ~ Light is good for your body - It's warmer now - more sunshine.  The sun is the best way to get adequate vitamin D!  Vitamin D is so healing for our bodies.  It helps your bones, your thyroid, and even helps your small intestine function properly.  Remember though if you are fair skinned, your body may not be able to tolerate sunshine without sunscreen.

~ People can see your light through your eyes.  Let your light shine and radiate through your eyes.  It costs nothing to be loving and kind to another.  When you allow your light to shine, others around you may radiate a similar light.

~ Your love, your light is a direct expression of your soul.  When your light is shining, people experience you, your love, from the inside out.

Let your light shine!  Inspire others!  So together we are the light of the world.  If you need help radiating your light, give us a call.

Bonus Health Tip:

Here's a healthy salad for the summer season!

Kim's favorite ~ Andrew Weil's Tuscan Kale Salad
(this recipe comes courtesy of Dr. Weil's True Food Kitchen restaurant in Phoenix, Az)

"Kale is among the most nutrient-dense commonly eaten vegetables.  One cup provides 1,327 percent of the Daily Value (DV) for vitamin K, 192 percent of DV for vitamin A, and 88 percent for vitamin C." ~ healthy kale info comes with Dr. Weil's recipe!

4-6 cups kale, loosely packed, sliced leaves of Italian black kale, midribs removed
juice of 1 lemon
3-4 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
2 cloves garlic, mashed
salt and pepper, to taste
hot red pepper flakes, to taste
2/3 cup grated Pecorino Toscano cheese or other flavorful grating cheese such as Asiago or Parmesan
1/2 cup freshly made bread crumbs from lightly toasted bread

1.  Whisk together lemon juice, olive oil, garlic, salt, pepper, and a generous pinch (or more to taste) of hot red pepper flakes.
2.  Pour over kale in serving bowl and toss well.
3.  Add 2/3 of the cheese and toss again.
4.  Let kale sit for at least 5 minutes.  Add bread crumbs, toss again, and top with remaining cheese.

I've Got Your Back ~ June * 2017

This month I'd like to share a recent story from Linda.  She and her husband spent many evenings on their back patio enjoying sunsets and all the lovely gifts of nature.  They especially loved watching fireflies/lightening bugs as they would emerge in the dusk and evening.

Her husband's health began to decline and Linda worked around the clock caring for his needs.  After a prolonged illness, her husband died on May 25, 2016.  It was 2:30 AM.  Linda walked out to their patio, their personal sanctuary, and started to cry.  Through her tears as she looked out, she couldn't believe what she was seeing.  Suddenly there were hundreds and hundreds of fireflies wherever she looked.  She felt in that moment that Spirit was with her consoling her through the fireflies.

This year, on May 25th, the one year anniversary of her husband's death, she again went out on her patio before retiring.  It was cool, had rained and all she noticed was complete darkness so she went to bed.  At 2:30, she awakened and again walked out to her sanctuary.  Then she began to see them!  A little flicker here, a little flicker there...  There they were - the fireflies.  She felt it was a message from her husband - she could imagine him saying, "Yes, honey, I'm still here with you - enjoying the fireflies!"  She was touched and moved by the message through these tiny "light" creatures.

Thank you, Linda, for sharing your personal, intimate story!  We send you love, LIGHT and continued healing in your life's journey.  A great reminder that ALL LIGHT is significant and can be very profound - even the tiny lightening bugs/fireflies.  Thank you for letting YOUR LIGHT shine!

~ Kim Evans
Thanks to each of you who are joining in our on-going challenge to be able to say "I've Got Your Back..."  If you have a story that you would like to share, please send it to me.  ~ Kim Evans

Summer Solstice:

Wednesday, June 21 12:24 AM EDT
Coming soon... the day with the most hours of sunlight!

"The Summer Solstice (derived from Latin words sol/Sun & sistere/to stand still) occurs when a planet's rotational axis, in either northern or southern hemispheres, is most inclined toward the star that it orbits.  Earth's maximum axial tilt toward the Sun is 23*26'.  This happens twice each year (once in each hemisphere) at which times the Sun reaches its highest position in the sky as seen from the north or the south pole.
Worldwide, interpretation of the event has varied among cultures, but most recognize the event in some way with holidays, festivals, and rituals around that time... in some regions, the Summer Solstice is seen as the beginning of summer and the end of spring." ~ Wikipedia
