Greetings & Notes from KIM EVANS - MARCH * 2017!
     
Wow!! It's Spring! Does it seem to you that we skipped winter this year and marched directly into Spring?  I am certainly excited to see our tulips and daffodils popping up!  And it's wonderful to hear the birds singing in the morning!

March is National Nutrition Month so our theme is " Healthy Food for your Whole Being."  Make a commitment to honor your body this month by eating healthy.  Join us in our Healthy Food for your Whole Being month.  Here is what Cynthia Goff and I have committed to do for the month:

                                   1. Eliminate all sugar and alcoholic beverages.
                                   2. Purchase only organic versions of the fruits and vegetables on the "Dirty Dozen" list.
                                   3. Intentionally say a blessing over our food.
                                   4. Share a happy story, affirmation or funny joke before we eat.
                                   5. Appreciate that this food and drink will become our own chemistry.

Betty Greaver is our Practitioner of the Month.  She embodies a wealth of knowledge and experience from her nursing career, integrative Nutrition certification, Healing Touch, Massage and Meditation practices.  Give Betty a call at 502.295.6251 to schedule a session with her this month!  You'll be so glad you did!

IIM HEALTH TIP OF THE MONTH ~ MARCH * 2017

Health Tip:

Welcome to March.  Our theme this month ~ in honor of Nutrition Month ~ is "Healthy Food for your Whole Being!"  We'll look at this from the perspective of the body, mind and Spirit.  

Kim Evans:  When we chose this theme, Jennifer and I had a chuckle as Jennifer related a story that her Mother, Joy used to tell.  When Joy was in grammar school, she recalls excitedly sharing with her parents what she learned that day in school - that we are all human "beans."  That sure fits our nutrition theme this month ~ "healthy food for your whole being."

Literally, though, we are what we eat and drink as they become our personal chemistry.  This is why it's so important to choose whole, healthy food.  Choose organic when possible - especially the "dirty dozen foods" which we've listed in this newsletter.  These are fruits and vegetables that have a high degree of pesticide usage.  So it's really important to get organic variations of these foods.

Know what foods support your genetic makeup most ideally.  We can test your APO E and give you a diet specific for your genetics.  When you provide the ideal food for your genetics, you create a healthy internal anti-inflammatory environment without disease!

From the mind perspective - It's important to eat mindfully and purposefully.  Many of us are so busy that we hurriedly eat on the run - in our cars, working through lunch and eating while we continue working, or while watching television or answering our texts or emails.  Provide healthy food for your whole being by eating mindfully and joyfully.  Digestion is significantly improved if we can eat slowly and mindfully.

Finally, the Spirit perspective - Bless your food before you eat.  Bless all that contributed to you getting the food that you are about to partake.  This raises the vibration not only of your food, but also of your body to receive the food.

I'VE GOT YOUR BACK ~ MARCH * 2017
 
I've Got Your Back ~ March * 2017

This month I'd like to honor LeAnn.  She first came to see me in 2012.  Her cholesterol was elevated at 247 (should be less than 200) and her LDL - the bad cholesterol - was 126 (should be less than 100).  She told me that in 2000 she became very ill and could hardly move.  She was diagnosed with high cholesterol, high blood sugar and hypothyroidism.  After doing her own research, she began to eliminate processed and refined carbohydrates.  She eliminated most grains such as rice, bread, corn and potatoes.  She discovered that she was able to manage her blood sugars by eliminating these carbohydrates.

We did her APO E and gave her a recommended diet based on her APO E gene type.  I have followed her thyroid studies and have adjusted her thyroid medications as indicated.  LeAnn also read Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn's book, Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease.  This program purports a vegan diet with very limited fat intake.  (There is a group in town that meets regularly at the McMahon Fire House to share recipes, cooking tips and ideas to sustain a vegan diet).


I recently saw LeAnn in my office to review her most recent labs.  She feels great, looks at least 10-15 years younger than her actual age, and continues her active lifestyle in her 7th decade.  Her most recent total cholesterol was 198, LDL - 82 and HDL particle numbers - 11,196 (normal is over 9386).  And she has made these changes predominantly with diet and exercise (and a few supplements)!
