           OCTOBER 2017

Move better! Feel better! Think better!

Greetings & Notes from KIM EVANS - OCTOBER 2017!
Move Better!  Feel Better! Think Better!  Our theme this month is all about being better!  When you can move better, you feel better and even think better!  It's fitting that our Practitioner of the Month is Dorothy Henning.  She is the queen of helping us move better!  If you've never experienced one of her Feldenkrais classes, I highly recommend it.  After working with her, my posture was perfect - with no effort!  Normally I must consciously focus on holding my shoulders back and keeping my neck slightly lifted to achieve perfect posture.  I was amazed that after working with her, I stood straight with no effort.  When everything is aligned, the musculoskeletal system, cardiovascular system and nervous systems are all supported.  You literally can move better, feel better and think better.

Fall is here - that beautiful time of year that brings cooler temperatures.  The leaves are changing and being dropped for the winter.  It's such a good metaphor for looking at our own lives.  Are there things/perceptions we need to change or drop?  Let the trees be a reminder for you to reflect on dropping or changing what no longer serves you.

This month we have five exciting programs to offer:
1.  Meditation with Victoria
Monday, October 9 - 6:30-8:00 PM.
It's a great way to slow down and enjoy a mindfulness hour.  Each person gets a bonus reading from Victoria which can be powerful life transforming information.  Contact:  Victoria Hayden 502.636.0133
2.  Effiji breath work session -
Monday, October 16 - 6:30-8:30 PM.
Sarah Charmoli is back to lead another Effiji breath work session.  This is a powerful breath work exercise.  I've now done the Effiji breath work 4 different times.  Last month was by far the most powerful session I've ever experienced.  If you need to change (or shift) any stuck emotions or drop "heavy" energy, think about doing the Effiji breath work.  Call Sarah Charmoli today at 323.762.9720 to register.  You'll be so glad you did!
3.  Six Choices that can reduce your risk of Breast Cancer -
Monday, October 23 - 6:00-7:30 PM.
Presented by Betty Greaver - in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  502.295.6251
4.  Jaw-dropping good! A Feldenkrais Playshop about the Jaw -
Monday, October 30 - 6:30-8:00 PM.
Join Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner Dorothy Henning for this special class... tension in your jaw? (and neck and shoulders?)... grind your teeth?... TMJ?... are you a singer, speaker, performer?  Come discover how soft and free you can be in your jaw!  Call or text Dorothy Henning:  502.240.7057
5.  Meditation and Positive Affirmations -
Monday, October 30 - 6:00-7:00 PM.
Presented by Betty Greaver - Go within and change your "stinkin' thinkin' to positive thoughts and affirmations."

Join us as we focus this month on...
" Moving better, feeling better, thinking better!"

What we're reading now!

Till the End of Time by Sylvia Anthony
"If you would like to read an excellent inspiring book, check out Till the End of Time.  One of my holistic friends, Carol Ryan, suggested the book.  It's an inspirational memoir by Sylvia Anthony.  Sylvia's story begins with her life as an unwanted child, beaten by her father and ignored by her mother.  Her first marriage ended in divorce because of cruelty, but she had three children whom she raised alone.  Later, as she drew closer to God, she was inspired to create an organization for women called Sylvia's Haven, which is a shelter for women and children.  Sylvia has spent her life creating homes for unwed mothers and/or abused women.  She has transformed the lives of over 1086 people, creating safe heavens for women when they have nowhere to turn.  She is 86 and still developing her organization around the country.  Her goal is to have a Sylvia's Haven shelter in all 50 states." ~ Kim E.   Learn more:

Move Better! Feel Better! Think Better!

Kim Evans:
Welcome to October!  Our theme this month is "Move Better! Feel Better! Think Better!"  When you move better, you feel better and this allows you to think better.  Dorothy is here to explain how these are intricately connected.

Dorothy Henning:
Thanks Kim.  So you may be wondering, how can movement affect our thinking and our feeling?  Well, with each movement we do, we need to think in order to do the action; we need to sense ourselves in our environment and we need to feel to make a decision of what it is we want to do.  It's important to remember it's always a person who desires and intends to act.  With the Feldenkrais Method of mindful movement, you have the opportunity to reflect on your movement and also to learn more about yourself.

Kim:  So if you need help improving your movement, feeling or thinking... or the integration of these, give us a call.

I've Got Your Back ~ October * 2017

This month I'd like to highlight Sydney.  She came in for coaching with Kimberly May (Wellness Coaching Specialist/Licensed HeartMath Provider).  Sydney was overwhelmed and unfulfilled in her work and had some past issues that were holding her back.  Her main concern was to reduce her stress and anxiety levels in her job and personal life.

She participated in the 5-week Revitalize You HeartMath Program, and then did some follow-up Life Coaching to get more in touch with her life purpose.  As a result, she ended up leaving her job, selling her condo, and moving to Lexington to help her aging grandparents.  She also enrolled in the Institute for Integrative Nutrition to study how diet can affect overall health, and began finishing up her 4-year degree.  She realized part of her purpose was to help people live a healthier lifestyle by moving to a more plant-based diet.

One of her goals was to discover a more meaningful career and have more direction in her life.  She dramatically reduced the amount of stress she was experiencing and learned to have more of a work/life balance.  With the coaching sessions, she accomplished more than she expected.

Her coworkers commented that she is a different person, and noticed how much happier she is.  She has now started a health coaching business to help others achieve their personal health goals, called Plant Love Wellness.  She walks her talk and is already helping others to live a healthier, happier life!

~ Kim Evans
Thanks to each of you who are joining in our on-going challenge to be able to say "I've Got Your Back..."  If you have a story that you would like to share, please send it to me.  ~ Kim Evans

"It's not only moving that creates new starting points.  Sometimes all it takes is a subtle shift in perspective, an opening of the mind, an intentional pause and reset, or a new route to see new options and new possibilities."

Dorothy Henning, Guild Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner

Jaw-dropping good! A Feldenkrais Playshop about the Jaw
Monday, October 30  6:30-8:00 PM

Do you hold tension in your jaw?  Or grind your teeth?  Have you been told you have TMJ
issues?  The jaw is an area where we can often be tense, where we may have developed patterns of holding.  You've probably heard the expression, "I'm going to set my jaw and do it!"  Then we do just that, set our jaw thinking we are helping ourselves do an activity while actually this tensing of the jaw inhibits and interferes with our intention!  Often tension in our jaw relays tension to our neck and shoulders, and may contribute to headaches.

This playshop will help you find more freedom of movement and let go of tension in your jaw.  Did you know that working with your jaw can also improve your posture?  There is an integral relationship between your jaw, your spine, and your pelvis.  Come and discover how soft and free you can be in your jaw!  Great for singers, speaker and performers... and for everybody!

In this playshop you will be verbally led through gentle exercises based on the Feldenkrais Method.  Many of the exercises will be on a mat on the floor.  Please let us know if it is difficult for you to get onto the floor and we can make arrangements for you to be able to participate.

Join Dorothy Henning, Guild Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner ~ Jaw-dropping good! A Feldenkrais Playshop
Cost: $25

Havening is a break-through method which alters the brain landscape to permanently remove the negative effects of trauma, stress and stuck emotions.

Introduction Training for the Havening Techniques
for removing trauma, stress and stuck emotions
November 10, 11, 12 - 2017

Havening is a powerful technique that effectively clears trauma that has become encoded in our nervous system.  When a trauma occurs, pathways become encoded in our nervous system.  Subsequent triggers stimulate the same pathway resulting in the fear, trauma, panic and negative emotions associated with the original traumatic event.  Havening Techniques help to break the encoding of that pathway.  You may have a memory of the traumatic event but it will no longer trigger the intense emotional reactions.

At IIM, both Kimberly May (502.593.9017) and Kim Evans (502.253.4554) have trained in The Havening Techniques.

Healing Oils of the Bible
Presented by The Transformation Institute

Saturday, December 2nd - 12:00 Noon - 4:00 PM

Over the past several years many people have been introduced to essential oils and are now beginning to understand the amazing health benefits.  However, essential oils have been around for years and are being studied by scientists for their many uses.  Many hospitals are using them to support cancer patients and those with other diseases.

Essential Oils have many benefits including helping us to connect to our divine source, deleting negative thoughts and helping our body come back into a state of harmony.  Essential oils are used to support emotional, physical and spiritual transformation.

These oils have been used for two thousand years and their benefits are well documented.  The Bible is full of references about essential oils as oils were used for anointing and holy incense.

Come and spend the afternoon with us to learn more about the 12 Healing Essential Oils of the Bible and their varied uses.  Samples will be provided and Healing Essential Oils will be available for purchase.  With Christmas being right around the corner, Frankincense and Myrrh Essential Oils make useful and practical gifts for your friends and loved ones too!
