Colourful fields of shibazakura (moss phlox) burst into bloom each year in Yamanashi Prefecture against the backdrop of a snow-capped Mt Fuji. The Fuji Shibazakura Festival boasts a spectacular display of 8 different varieties of moss phlox, and is typically held from mid-April to late May in the Fuji Five Lakes area.

The last month of spring brings pleasant weather, colourful floral displays across the country and the last of the sakura blooms in Tohoku and Hokkaido. It’s a great time for outdoor adventures before the warmer months arrive, and alpine attractions that were closed over winter continue to open up.  


As we continue to dream for a bit longer, Japan continues to work towards a further relaxation of the borders. We will provide further updates when more details are available.
