Hi ,

First of all, JNTO would like to express our deepest condolences to the victims of the Noto Peninsula Earthquake that occurred on Monday the 1st January 2024. From the bottom of our hearts, we wish for the safety of everyone in the affected areas, and hope for speedy recovery and reconstruction.

As Japan enters the first month of the year, families gather to spend time together and eat traditional food, such as 'osechi ryori', to bring in luck and good fortune into the New Year. Certain ingredients and side dishes eaten are supposed to act as a charm for the New Year. Such fortunes wished for include luck, wealth, happiness and good health.

With snowfall at its peak, January is the ideal time for skiing and outdoor winter activities. Benefit from Japan's powder snow and hit the slopes at famous skiing resorts and locations.
