Hi ,

September heralds the beginning of autumn. The summer heat gradually gives way and the autumn foliage begins to turn in Japan's northernmost prefecture of Hokkaido, spreading south over the coming weeks, especially in higher altitude locations like the Japan Alps.

Autumn this year brings even more promise: this week, Prime Minister Kishida announced that from 11 October, independent travel to Japan will be allowed to resume and the visa waiver programme will be reinstated for some countries. We eagerly await more information on these coming changes and will update our COVID-19 Health & Safety Information page when the official information has been announced by the Government of Japan.

This month’s newsletter highlights include places you wouldn't expect to find in Japan, Hokkaido's indigenous heritage, a traditional pilgrimage route and the free divers still fishing by ancient methods.
