Dear ,

Welcome to the 26th Dreaming Edition of the Japan Travel Trade Newsletter!

As you may know, from next month Japan will be doubling the entry cap from 10,000 pax/day to 20,000 and travellers coming from 'Blue' group countries will not need to take a PCR test or quarantine on arrival, regardless of vaccination status. The list of countries in each group are yet to be announced, please see the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan's website for detailed information.

At present, a visa is still required to enter the country, and only business travellers, students and long-stay visas are being considered. However, the first set of trial tour groups from 4 countries including Australia landed in Japan this week. They will be spending up to a week exploring the country on fixed itineraries and accompanied by a guide, with the last set of groups to depart Japan by early June.

We do not yet know when the borders will be opened to leisure travellers but an update is expected in June after the trial concludes. Rest assured that we will let you, our valued trade partners, know as soon as we have information on this.

Insider Tip
#1: Golden Week

Golden Week refers to a string of four public holidays in Japan from 29th April to 5th May and adjacent weekends. As many offices close for about a week or more, it is one of the peak seasons for domestic travel. Expect trains, airports and tourist attractions to be more crowded than usual.
