Safe travels in Japan’s winter wonderland
 
For clients planning to drive in Japan, remind them to review local traffic rules before setting off. Conditions can differ from home, especially in snowy regions like Hokkaido. Useful resources include the Japan Automobile Federation website, and the National Police Agency’s Traffic Safety Rules and International Drivers guides. 
 
Services such the new nighttime shuttle service between Noboribetsu Station and Noboribetsu Onsen are also convenient alternatives. 
 
The Tokyo Convention & Visitors Bureau has released a new comprehensive guide to enjoying Tokyo at night. It includes information about family-friendly light illuminations, night art, Instagram-worthy spots, night cruises and more, all in one handy booklet. 
 
The new Tokyo Night Story website also has some great ideas and information on recommended night-time routes, events and more.

Winter festival spotlight 
 
The winter season bring a range of cultural festivals worth noting for clients’ itineraries. From lantern-lit streets and fireworks in historical post towns to illuminated snow huts and an ice bar, these events showcase the charm of the colder months. Locations (clockwise from top left): 
• Ouchi-juku Snow Festival (Fukushima): 14 to 15 Feb 
• Yokote Kamakura Festival (Akita): 13 to 14 Feb 
Yuki Hatago Akari Festival (Yamagata): 31 Jan to 23 Feb 
Yunishigawa Onsen Kamakura Festival (Tochigi): 30 Jan to 1 Mar 

Gifu City (Gifu Prefecture) 


With easy access from Nagoya, Gifu is a compact, modern city famed for its refined crafts and rich history. Your clients can hike or take a ropeway to Gifu Castle and witness stunning views. Or, check out the architecturally impressive Minna no Mori Gifu Media Cosmos cultural complex and relax in the charming library

For clients keen on architecture, they may also like to combine with a trip to the nearby ceramics town of Tajimi where the Tajimi Mosaic Tile Museum will intrigue them.
