Dear ,

Welcome to the March 2023 Edition of the Japan Travel Trade Newsletter!

Travel to Japan is well and truly back into full swing, and the much-anticipated sakura (cherry blossom) season is underway in many parts of the country. Flight capacity to Japan has further increased this past weekend, with ANA now flying twice daily on their direct Sydney to Haneda route and Qantas launching their highly anticipated direct Melbourne to Haneda route.

This month’s newsletter highlights include a new guide to the lively city of Osaka, a round-up of some stunning places to see sakura (including many hidden gems), a list of 10 family-friendly attractions and much more.

Insider Tip
#12: Hanami (cherry blossom-viewing)

By now the allure of Japan's famed sakura (cherry blossoms) is world renowned, and most people know that along with the sakura comes hanami - cherry blossom-viewing parties. Full articles have been dedicated to this on travel blogs all over, so for today's insider tip I'll just give you the basics:

Hanami can take place in daytime or at night, anywhere where there are sakura trees. Many people take a tarp to stake out a preferred spot in a park in the early morning; tampering with someone else's tarp, even unattended, is frowned upon. Stock up on your food and drinks (which can include beer and wine; drinking alcohol in public is perfectly legal in most parts of Japan) and hunker down to admire the beauty and chat the day (or evening) away.
