Dear ,

Welcome to the October 2022 Edition of the Japan Travel Trade Newsletter!

This month, Japan began welcoming back FIT travellers. As we mentioned last month, Australia and New Zealand passport holders (as well as those from 66 other countries) no longer need to apply for a visa in advance of travel to Japan for leisure purposes, as the visa waiver programme has been reinstated.

At this stage, travellers are still required to either be triple vaccinated or have a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours before departure.

Insider Tip
#27: IC cards aren't just for public transport

Last month we talked about using an IC card such as Suica or PASMO for trains and buses within a city, but did you know that you can also use them to make purchases?

In addition to using them for local public transport (reminder: often with a discount compared to buying a one-way ticket), you can use an IC card to purchase drinks from vending machines, snacks from station kiosks, and even light meals from some cafes and restaurants. It essentially serves as a prepaid card. Some convenience stores also offer a discount if you use your IC card to pay!

So instead of refunding the balance of your card and returning it at the airport station, why not keep the card as a souvenir and use up your funds on snacks for the plane?
