The nursery hums along nicely, we’ve still got a lot of interesting fruit trees to share with the folks. Many new varieties of citrus not offered before as well as lots of local heirlooms that are tried and true bearers in our local area. We’ve worke
d all summer to revamp the garden shop, got a new roof so we can now see to write tickets on cloudy dark days. The building got a new paint job, very funky colors lots of red!
We’re busy planting the gardens with new veggie and cottage garden plants. Peak season to begin visiting the gardens will be April. The orchard is turning into a wonderful study of Permaculture techniques. We have planted Cereal Rye, Dixie Clover and Russian Comfrey to use as cover crops. Mulched the trees with hay and applied a healthy dose of organic fertilizer to get them off to a good start this year.
We’re delving into the world of worm growing; two new worm bins have been installed in the green house. We hope to have a few work shops on the fine art of worm raising. The teas and casting they provide are by far the best food on the earth for plants.
Marquetta has put together a new photo tour of the nursery, its well worth viewing. There will be more pictures to come, so if you can’t get out to visit the nursery, you can take a virtual stroll.
