All I WANT for Christmas is...

When asked what most gardeners would wish for Christmas, we all know what they really want is several months of steady, soaking rains, and a good 500 hours of frost without a hard freeze would also be appreciated. Personally I’m looking for a species of squirrels that eats only Florida betony, nut grass, and oxalis, and second on my list is a self-weeding garden. Having no control over Mother Nature, we looked around the nursery and came up with some great ideas on what to give to your favorite gardener.

F
LOWER LOVERS

-CAMELLIAS the queen of winter flowers. Beautiful small heavily budded one gallon starter plants $9.99 and up

-BULBS, 20% OFF Carlton Daffodils, Sweetness, Early Cheer and others. We only carry the ones that naturalize in north Florida.

FRUIT TREES make fabulous gifts. The rewards continue into the future with the harvest of home grown fruit and nuts, and nothing compares in terms of flavor. There is something to suit everyone, even the smallest backyard has space for a small potted fruit tree. If you do not know what tree to select, then a gift certificate is a great option.

-OLIVE TREES  Yes! you can grow your own olives. Starter sizes $24.99

-CITRUS TREES

Put a little sunshine in someone’s winter. We’ve got the best selection in north Florida, over 39 different varieties, all on cold hardy root stock. $39.99

HERB & SEED BASKETS Little Italy, Tea time, Flower garden in a basket. $7.99 to $19.99, or BE CREATIVE and CHEAP, we’ll help you make your own at the nursery. Just bring your in favorite basket, pick out the plants you like and we’ll help you design a custom one for your favorite gardener. These are great gifts to give to hostess at parties and visiting relatives.

ART IN THE GARDEN

Andrea William’s funky garden signs. These signs say it all. They are colorful and creative, they don’t need weeding or watering, and look good the year round. It’s the perfect gift for the busy gardener.  $30.00 and up.

HELP A FRUSTRATED GARDENER

-If you really want to make your gardeners day or year, give them a gift certificate for a micro sprinkler irrigation system. The average DYI irrigation system runs about $150.00 to $200.00. We’ll help them plan it and show them how to install it themselves.

-Got a gardener SPINNING THEIR WHEELS trying to figger out how to landscape their yard? Sure signs of this syndrome are hours spent walking around the yard in circles. Buy this poor soul a gift certificate for an hour ($65.00 and up) of Betsy Smith of GARDEN ARTS time.  Betsy will help with site evaluation, design and plant selection.

What says more than a truck load of COMPOST? I guarantee you, she will know you love her, if you offer her the gift of PLANT GOLD, so skip the DIAMONDS and give her what she really wants. We’ll provide the card so you can avoid the smell of compost under the tree.

-GIFT CERTIFICATES Got a gardener who’s hard to shop for? Running late and can’t get to the nursery? DON”T PANIC!  We can mail one to you or send it directly to them.
