The Scents of Spring....

Here at the nursery we are all walking around in a daze these days. The gardens are a buffet of intoxicating spring scents. You can stand in one place and smell orange blossoms, tea olive and wisteria. A walk to the olive garden will make you hungry for a slice of banana nut bread with the scent from the banana shrubs.

The kitchen garden in the parking lot is coming into full bloom. Foxgloves and snapdragons are just about to pop. Winter kale and lettuce peek out between all the flowers.

The winter cover crop of ceral rye is flowering and we're soon to return it to the earth to feed the trees this summer. It's a beautiful sight.

Life is good... Come visit the garden .

Just Fruits Grown Veggie's

The benches are loaded each week with a great collection of homegrown heirloom veggies. We've Green Zebra and Tigerella tomatoes, Thai Hot, Fish and Cajun Bell peppers. The weird eggplants are coming. There are plenty of mints, sage and other herbs and so much more...

Ok so you've planted all the tomatoes, peppers and other traditional vegetables in the garden, but have you left room to try something new? There is a wealth of interesting vegetables in the world and many of them will grow well in our climate.

EGYPTIAN SPINACH or MOLOKHIY  Corchorus olitorius

Molohiya is considered the king of vegetables. It is far richer in carotene, calcium and vitamins than spinach and tasty to boot. You can find lots of molohiya recipe on the net.

JICAMA  Pachyrhizus erosus,

Sweet, crunchy roots taste like pear in salads and blend well into stir-fry’s. This rambling vine is a legume, and may well be a good candidate for growing under fruit trees as a nitrogen source.

RED MALABAR SPINACH Basella alba 'Rubra'

In our never ending search for the perfect summer spinach substitute we offer this plant. It’s beautiful to look at and it’s tender new shoots are great in salads or braised with olive oil and onions.

We've still got Fruit Trees
Even though it seems late we still have a good selection of plants to choose from. Lots of citrus , blueberries  and peaches . Good supplies left of figs  and apples.

Remember if we are sold out of an item you wanted, we can add you to our call when available list. You will get first choice of the new crop, when it becomes available. It's easy, just email or call us, we make sure you don't miss out again.

The Papaya's are Here!

If you've ever visited the gardens in the summer you've seen our papaya trees loaded with fruit. Every year we order in plants that are grown and ready to begin flowering. This year we have in Sunrise and Waimanalo . Both are self fertile and will produce lots of green papaya in a couple of months.

Make Your Own Flower Essences! Workshop
  with Yarrow Pellbring
Sunday April 15th 1:00 to 2:00

People around the world have been using Bach Flower Remedies for over 70 years to help manage their emotions and fulfill their potential. Although only a few of the original Bach flowers are native to North Florida, there are numerous native species that have since been identified as the 'Healing Flowers of North America' by the Flower Essence Society that can be grown here and used to make flower essences.

In this 'hands on' seminar, you will learn to make your own flower essences, determine when they are indicated, and how to prepare a remedy bottle. Participants will have the opportunity to choose up to 7 Bach flower essences to combine to prepare a custom formulated treatment bottle, as well as receive a glass bowl to take home to make their own native flower essences.

The class is taught by Yarrow Pellbring, Bach Foundation Registered Practitioner, who trained both in the U.S. and at the Bach Centre in England, and who has been granted a place on the International Registry of the Bach Foundation. Additional information on the Bach Flower Remedies can be found on the official site: www.bachcentre.com , or on facebook: Bach Flower Consultations, or by contacting Yarrow at 850-509-2053 or Yarrow@BachFlowerConsults.com
