ASAE 2011 Annual Meeting Recap: Engagement is Still the Hottest Buzz Word
Successful online education and e-learning is about much more than delivering need-to-know content these days. Not only do your speakers need to engage and interact with your audience, you have to give them the opportunity to engage and interact back.
What does that mean?
Your audience doesn’t just want to sit and be “talked at”— they want to “participate,” ask questions and offer feedback during your live events … not just afterward while filling out an evaluation.
Some of these suggestions sound messy and scary – and may take some time getting used to. And, this is not a one-size-fits-all solution. However, the reward of livening up your events, increasing audience participation and having your attendees eager to return for more will definitely make it worthwhile.
Ideas to Engage & Interact During Live Events
- Chat
- Annotation tools
- Video
- Q&A (before, during and after events)
- Social Media (for attendees to comment, ask questions, etc.)
- Use PPT slides that are useful, colorful, full of pictures, not text heavy
- Action guides
The Ignite Sessions were enjoyable and inspirational! And other important conversations revolved around embracing openness with everything, including social media, and welcoming member comments.
