Many of you may recall that we held our first-ever Client Summit in Washington, D.C. last May. It was a great event with an excellent turn-out. And, we continue to be amazed by all the wonderful ideas that were shared, both during and following the Summit.

Drawing upon many of these great ideas and suggestions, I’m happy to announce our 2011 Spring Client Summit in Chicago. Like last year’s Summit, this lively gathering will focus on practical and useful insights and tips for successful virtual events, with plenty of time allotted to collaborate, discover, network and share with your peers.

"Dear KRMite ... "

I'm getting feedback from attendees that it takes too long for my webinar presentation material to start because of lengthy speaker introductions. On the other hand, I get feedback on my evaluation forms that indicate some people missed part of the content presented at the beginning of the webinar. I'm not sure what to think!

What’s the best way to handle introductions at the beginning of my events?

Signed,

Confused

Dear "Confused,”

Since 1994, we've helped clients with thousands of events and have observed “typical” patterns of attendees — when they join your events as compared to the actual start time of your events.

What does the data suggest?

As a general “rule of thumb,” about three-fourths of your attending audience is active as the curtain rises on your events. The standard KRM Moderator introduction — short welcome, housekeeping details, attendance poll and brief introduction of the presenter(s) — averages about 3 minutes and 30 seconds. The majority of the remaining one-fourth of your audience that hadn’t joined by event start time, will join at some point during the moderator intro.

Add a dash of KRM’s expertise

Our suggestion is to provide full biographical information of your speaker(s) in your event handouts and use only name and title as a verbal introduction of the speaker(s) during your live events. Or, use a brief biographical sentence or two highlighting presenter accomplishments that relate to why you have invited them to share their expertise and insights with your members.  Don’t risk tuning out your audience with long speaker bios.

Create the perfect recipe for you and your attendees

In addition to minimizing speaker bios, it’s a good idea to provide an overview at the start of your events to remind attendees why they’ve registered (and paid)  -- what they’re going to learn, repeat key takeaways, etc.

If you’re still concerned about members missing content from your webinars, a terrific idea is to provide two weeks of post-event access to the recording as part of the purchase price. This is quite cost-effective, and ultimately beneficial to your members –- whether they missed a short part of the presentation due to arriving late or they would like to refer back to the presentation to review and implement what they learned.

Services Showcase: Event Recordings & Hosting

Just because your “live webinar” is over doesn’t mean you can’t continue the revenue stream from your valuable content. Selling recordings of your events may increase your non-dues revenue by as much as 30 percent … and more!

It’s like buying a concert t-shirt or CD as soon as the show is over. The time is right, you are engaged, inspired and you want to share your experience. The same is true of webinar recordings.

One of our clients offers the recording for half-price to every participant –- not just the person who registered, but everyone at the site. This client increases their revenue by 50% per event.

Does this sound familiar?

  1. Your audience wants information “to go” or at a time convenient to them.
  2. Your members have entered the “TiVo” world.
  3. Members have less time to attend your live events.
  4. You have content you can re-purpose and recycle.
  5. You want to sell recordings on your website.
  6. You are interested in recording face-to-face conferences, meetings or well-known speakers to put (and maybe even sell) on your website.
  7. You have an LMS you use to distribute your content.
  8. You can offer CE to your member for listening to a recorded version of your event.

What’s in it for you and your members?

  • Additional non-dues revenue
  • Low cost, easy to set up, high ROI
  • Cost effective for members, with no travel needed
  • Member benefit
  • Expand marketing efforts -- offer recordings to prospects, attendees at each registered site & non members to increase future attendance
  • Creates portable education at your member’s finger tips
  • Meets the needs of the many learning styles and types – listen, view and replay
  • Flexible option for busy professionals – listen any time, any place
  • Creates a more dynamic website with webinar recordings available online
  • Fast turn-around time on recording content to share hot topics, laws and regulations
  • Use social media for your online community to promote and share recordings = more revenue!
  • Convenient for your presenters, with no travel needed

KRM can help with that.
