MISSION STATEMENT
|
The Corbett Foundation (TCF) consists of a group of dedicated men and women who are committed to the conservation of wildlife and nature, and fulfilling the ambition that human beings and nature must live together in harmony.

FENCING OF WELLS
|
The Corbett Foundation, with the support of Friends of Conservation and Exodus Travels Ltd., has initiated a project to cover the open farm wells with chain-linked fencing to prevent accidental drowning of animals. In the first phase, 200 such open wells that are closest to the core zone have been fenced under this project thus mitigating the man-animal conflict in the area.

DOCUMENTARY: SEEDS OF SAMRUDDHI |
TCF in collaboration with Axis Bank Foundation launched 'Samruddhi: a step towards better health and environment' in Kanha Tiger Reserve in October 2014. Six-hundred energy-efficient smart-stoves with chimneys and insecticide-treated mosquito nets (ITM) have been distributed to locals living on the fringes of Kanha under this initiative. The smart-stoves and chimneys will help cut down dependency on fuel-wood and help reduce instances of respiratory problems that are associated with the inhalation of smoke.

SOLAR-POWERED LANTERNS |
The Corbett Foundation has partnered with Anandana (Coca-Cola India Foundation) to provide solar-powered lanterns to over 3000 households from 62 villages in the buffer zone of Corbett Tiger Reserve and its surrounding forest divisions. What is unique about this project is that it incorporates 50% community contribution towards the cost of the lanterns. These villages that are located in remote areas amidst dense forests often face power cuts and irregular electricity supply, and can benefit tremendously from renewable energy interventions.

MANAGING TIGERS BEYOND THEIR STRONGHOLDS |
A seminar titled "Managing Tigers Beyond Their Strongholds" was organised in March as a part of the Satpuda Landscape Tiger Partnership (SLTP) supported by the Born Free Foundation, UK. This NGO consortium, under the aegis of SLTP, addresses major threats that tigers face in Central India and helps ensure the species' protection whilst attending to the needs of people who share the habitat with tigers. The Corbett Foundation is proud to be a partner in this consortium.

SOLAR-POWERED PUMPS IN BANDHAVGARH |
The Corbett Foundation, with the support of Friends of Conservation and Exodus Travels Ltd. of the United Kingdom, installed 10 solar-powered pumps on the waterholes created by the forest department for wild animals in the core zone of Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve. The solar-powered pumps installed in Khitauli, Kallawah and Pataur ranges ensure that water is always available for wild animals, especially during the summer months.
|
SAKHI ENERGY-EFFICIENT STOVES |
The Corbett Foundation, with the support of Friends of Conservation and Exodus Travels Ltd. of the United Kingdom, installed specially designed 400 energy-efficient stoves aptly named as
Sakhi, a friend of women and environment.
Sakhi stoves require around 40-50% less firewood than the traditional chulahs. These energy-efficient stoves come with a chimney extension that helps in expelling the smoke outside thus keeping the kitchen smoke-free. The women of Rakhi and Bijharia villages, where the
Sakhi stoves have been provided, have welcomed this initiative.

BIOGAS PROGRAMME IN KANHA AND BANDHAVGARH |
It is crucial to introduce alternative sources of energy such as biogas plants which have several conservation-related benefits including reducing the dependency on forests for fuelwood, minimising chances of confrontations between humans and wildlife, as well as reducing the risk of respiratory ailments from the prolonged intake of smoke generated from traditional stoves. TCF has been promoting the use of biogas plants in buffer zone villages of Kanha and Bandhavgarh. A total of 24 biogas plants in the buffer zones of Kanha and Bandhavgarh tiger reserves.
