HEALTH CHECK-UP FOR FOREST STAFF

The Corbett Foundation - Bandhavgarh organized a health check up camp for the forest staff of Magadhi range of Bandhavgarh. Our medical team examined their Blood Pressure, Sugar levels and provided appropriate treatment and advice. Such camps will be organized in all ranges of Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve. TCF is compiling a health report of all the fontline staff of Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve.

WILDLIFE RESCUE WORK

The Corbett Foundation often lends its helping hand to rescue wild animals in distress. Our team in Kaziranga was rescued an Indian Flying Fox ( Pterosaurs giganteus) trapped in a net encircling canopy of a Betel Nut tree. Manoj Gogoi from TCF went out of his way to climb the tree and to rescue the suffering bat.

SOLAR LANTERNS MAKE A DIFFERENCE
The Corbett Foundation's project "Akshay Urja, Swastha Jeevan" continues to be a boon to the communities living around Corbett Tiger Reserve and it's surrounding forest divisions. Over 2500 solar-powered lanterns already distributed with the support of Coca-Cola India Foundation has, among its many uses, made it possible for children to study in the evenings. The Corbett Foundation is extremely happy to be able to play a small role in shaping the future of the kids in this region.
COMMUNITY-BASED NATURAL RESOURCES CONSERVATION PROJECT IN KANHA

With the support of the Born Free Foundation, TCF has initiated a Community-based Natural Resources Conservation project in village Bakiguda situated in the buffer zone and close to the core zone of Kanha Tiger Reserve (KTR). This project covers the 120-odd households of Bakiguda to gain their support for protection of the buffer zone, and in turn assist the Forest Department of KTR in better management of its forests. The most important aspect of the project is to restore around 16 hectares of degraded forest land by Lantana removal and plantation of native species. Use of Sakhi energy-efficient stoves and gobargas plants, plantation of fodder crops and bamboo plantation for sustainable harvesting that they can harvest sustainably for their own are some of the other aspects of this project.

BIODIVERSITY MANAGEMENT COMMITTEES

Kutch Ecological Research Centre (KERC), a division of The Corbett Foundation, with the support from of Gujarat Biodiversity Board, is working on a project to constitute Biodiversity Management Committees and People’s Biodiversity Register in 10 selected villages of Abdasa taluka in Kutch. Out of the 10 villages KERC is working on for this project, six villages are important for the conservation of the Great Indian Bustard. All these villages fall under the core area of the distribution range of the species and grasslands of these villages need to be preserved. Such projects would enable community participation and support for the protection of Great Indian Bustards in Kutch.
