Candidate Corner Don Stover for Greenville City Council
Don Stover of Greenville, Illinois, and Vice Chair of the Bond-Fayette County Libertarian Chapter, has thrown his hat into the ring for the office of City Council in the April 2011 election.
When asked what motivated him to run for local office, Don replied, "With all the recent activity surrounding ballot access and the less than favorable vote totals received by Libertarian candidates across the country in the November election, it became apparent to me that the only way 'in' is from the bottom up. Coupled with that thought was the constant reminder from years of local inaction that it was, after all, my civic duty. So here it is ... this non-partisan local body will perhaps be getting a different kind of voice in April, one that advocates accountability and transparency in government."
"Two seats are up this term and there are a total of four candidates in the race. Plus a recent state mandated lottery for ballot position placed my name first on the list of candidates. I call that very good position. Still, vigilance and a lot of hand shaking are on the horizon. It's going to be a good race."

Candidates Wanted
The Libertarian Party of Illinois is so proud of the Election 2010 candidates. They introduced the Libertarian Party and shared libertarian ideas with countless people across our state. Each is a champion of liberty.
Now we look forward to standing on their shoulders to elect Illinois Libertarians in 2011, 2012, and 2014.
If you are interested in running for local office in 2011, such as library board, school board, or city council, there's no time to waste. Petitions to get on the ballot are due December 20 for the April election.
You may also be considering a race in 2012 or 2014 for the Illinois General Assembly or US Congress. The larger the race, the sooner you should start your campaign.
You can find more information on running for office and volunteering with campaigns on the Libertarian Party of Illinois' Campaigns Page.
Around the nation there are over 150 elected Libertarians. We have a number already in Illinois, but we need many more to turn our ship of state towards liberty.
Bottom line: we want YOU to run as a Libertarian candidate!
When you have selected an office, please email Campaign@LPIllinois.org, so the LP Illinois can help to support your campaign.
Currently, we have four Illinois Libertarians running for office. If you are interested in helping with campaigns, please contact one or more of the following candidates:

39 Day Challenge 39 Dollars, 39 Days... to grow the party
On December 11, 1971, disillusioned Republicans, Democrats and political newcomers gathered in the home of David Nolan to create an alternative to the existing outdated parties.
39 years later, with the November election results less favorable than we had hoped for, and with the recent passing of LP co-founder David Nolan, we are reminded of the challenges we still face while remembering those who have gone before us in this fight for liberty -- and that it is incumbent upon each of us to be eternally vigilant in the cause of liberty.
This December 11th, with respect for our Party's past and with vision for our future, all LP-Illinois members are encouraged to donate $39 to the Libertarian Party of Illinois. Simply visit our website's donation page to give your $39 or send a check to the Libertarian Party of Illinois, PO Box 454, Lemont, IL 60439
But don't stop with that single gesture ... continue to do one thing each day for the next 39 days to promote liberty and the Libertarian Party of Illinois. Write a Letter to the Editor, invite a friend to participate in an upcoming Libertarian event, purchase libertarian promotional items from our LP-Illinois website, start a Libertarian blog, join and promote our LP-Illinois facebook page, act on your inclination to start an LP-Illinois Chapter in your community -- whatever works best for you.
This is YOUR opportunity to take ACTION and make a real difference in just 39 days. Starting with your $39 donation on December 11th and actively participating in this 39 day challenge through January 18th, together we can honor our Party's past and better equip ourselves for a healthy and enduring future! |
