| Polling Prospects |
Boosting Libertarian numbers in the polls is an important step toward success. High numbers can lead to an increase in debate invitations and interviews, which in turn leads to more votes. So be sure to support Libertarian candidates when pollsters come calling, and remind your friends to do the same. In addition, please take this online poll, voting for and commenting on our entire slate.

Grassroots Campaigning Our Candidates: Something to Talk About |
|
Some of the most effective campaigns are grassroots efforts. In business, referrals are golden, much more valuable than advertisements. The same is true in politics. People are much more likely to trust the advice of a friend than that of a television commercial. That's why Matt Ervin, campaign manager for Lex Green, says that the best way to help, especially in these final weeks, is to put up yard signs (in yards and 100 feet from polling places) and to spread the word to friends and family. Lex Green and Julie Fox add that calling in to talk radio shows and sending letters to the editor are two excellent ways for them to gain name recognition. (For tips and examples, please see our previous newsletter.) To put this strategy into action, it is important to keep some talking points fresh in your mind so that you're ready to explain why you're supporting Libertarian candidates. Here are some points to remember:
Lex Green and Ed Rutledge
Governor and Lieutenant Governor
Everyone knows that Illinois is in serious financial trouble. Democrat and Republican leadership are equally responsible, and we should not expect either party to suddenly change. (Remember that definition of insanity- to keep doing the same thing and expect a different result.) Lex and Ed have put together a detailed plan for Illinois' budget, and it is posted on their website. The other candidates have made nothing but vague promises.
Mike Labno US Senate www.labno4senate.com The word on the street is that Illinois voters are not at all happy about their choices in this race. Both Alexi Giannoulias and Mark Kirk have faced scandals and been caught in lies. To disenchanted Democrats, point out that Mike supports ending the never-ending "war on terror". To would-be Republicans, highlight Mike's firm stance against government bailouts. (Mark Kirk voted for TARP!)
Julie Fox Comptroller www.foxforcomptroller.com Julie Fox is an easy sell. She's the only qualified candidate! She is a CPA, the only accountant running for Illinois' top accounting position. You will not hear her opponents talk about specifics of the Comptroller's job. They will give their opinions on a variety of subjects about which they would have absolutely no control while ignoring financial auditing and accounting procedures. They simply don't have the expertise to speak intelligently about the areas for which they actually would be responsible. As Julie says, "we expect our Attorney General to be an attorney; why shouldn't we expect our Comptroller to be an accountant?"
James Pauly Treasurer www.pauly4illinois.com James has compiled a long list of innovative ideas for "protecting the people's money", and that's something that everyone can relate to. He even wants to lower the Treasurer's salary!
Bill Malan Attorney General www.bill4ag.org Bill is an accomplished attorney, deeply dedicated to libertarian principles. He understands how special interest groups have taken control away from the people, especially in the field of healthcare. Bill will be a "determined advocate for returning power over healthcare to the people" of Illinois- a stark contrast to Lisa Madigan.
Josh Hanson Secretary of State www.joshhanson2010.com Josh is dedicated to improving customer service at the Department of Motor Vehicles by holding employees accountable for their performance. He will cut costs wherever he is authorized to do so, and provide total financial transparency.
Doug Marks 14th Congressional District www.dougmarks4congress.webs.com There are libertarians everywhere who don't yet know they're libertarian. Some "Democrats" only vote the way they do because they support gay rights and ending the wars on terror and drugs. They might have no opinion about what kind of economic system is the best. Conversely, some "Republicans" only vote the way they do because they are adamant about the superiority of the capitalist system, but don't care to meddle in people's personal lives. (Apparently they also fail to realize that Republicans are far from fiscally conservative.) When talking to a perceived Democrat, point out Doug's stance on social issues. When talking to a possible Republican, highlight Doug's economic platform. And don't forget to remind them how the other two parties have failed them time and time again.
Steve Funk and Kevin Hendrickson State Representatives, 18th and 69th District www.votestevefunk.com www.electkevinil69.com As with the other legislative office seekers, Steve and Kevin can appeal to the libertarian side of everyone. We can also capitalize on the general feeling of mistrust and disgust of both Democrats and Republicans in this state.
