A Message from Attorney General Candidate
Bill Malan

AG Race Presents Unprecedented Opportunity

I am Bill Malan, Libertarian Party of Illinois candidate for Attorney General. The 2010 AG race – only two weeks away - presents a rare opportunity in Libertarian Party history. There are three unique reasons why the time is right for this AG race:

       1.  The “Wasted Vote” Argument: The AG race is not as “important” as the Governor’s race, and is not going to be close.  Incumbent Democrat Lisa Madigan will trounce the unknown and unfunded “moderate Republican” Steve Kim.  The only votes that won’t matter in this race are those cast for Lisa Madigan or Steve Kim, and everyone knows it.

2.       Madigan and Cronyism: Lisa Madigan’s ties to unions and to her father, Democrat Speaker Mike Madigan, lead many voters to (correctly) believe she is “part of the problem” of cronyism and corruption. Her track record of prosecuting corruption in this most corrupt state is dismal.

3.       RINO’s & Tea Party. Even Republican stalwarts are primed to bail on a “Republican in Name Only” like Steve Kim is the AG race. I have received the endorsement of the Boston National Tea Party Committee. If we make the effort and get the word out we can achieve unprecedented results in this race.

State Insolvency & Voter Anger. In addition to the three reasons stated above that are unique to the AG race, Illinois is on the verge of bankruptcy, and there are no more pension funds to raid or other shell games politicians can use to hide the problem. Voters are nervous and angry. Mainstream politicians are dodging issues so as to not spook the voting herd into stampeding in the “wrong” direction.

The Time is NOW. We can, if we focus our efforts, turn at least part of that herd in the right direction. The voters are fed up and primed for a protest vote. I have been an LP member for 30 years, and worked on or contributed to many LP campaigns. This is my first and only run for office, and the first and only time I will ask for your support.

Please Contribute or Volunteer! I loaned my AG campaign $1,000. A “Donate” button was set up on the website about a week ago and the campaign has since received approximately $600 in contributions. But we need to purchase more campaign literature and signs, and we especially need volunteers to implement what I call the campaign’s “impulse buyer” plan. To contribute or volunteer, go to my campaign website: http://www.Bill4AG.org - go to the Get Involved tab to volunteer or Donate tab to contribute. If you can, do both.

The Impulse Buyer Plan. You all know how stores have items for sale at the checkout line. Similarly, I want to put as many volunteers as we can muster at as many key polling places as possible to hand out literature. With enough help, we can capitalize on Madigan’s cronyism, a weak Republican challenger, voter anger, and turn a handsome “liberty profit” from a modest investment.

I encourage you to all vote the straight LP ticket. But I also need your help – funds and volunteers – to implement the “impulse buyer” plan and capitalize on the factors unique to this AG race. While the LPI provides coordination and funded the ballot access effort and other necessary activities, it provides no money for campaign materials or expenses. This AG race, to borrow a phrase from former Governor Blagojevich, is golden.” Please go to my campaign website to contribute what you can, or volunteer. Again the site is at http://www.Bill4AG.org

Thank you.

You can also read short essays I posted in my campaign blog on the following topics:

1.      Lisa Madigan: Preaches Transparency, Practices Stonewalling. Pointing out that Madigan’s Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy/Communications is the same person who is responsible for ensuring Freedom of Information (FOI) requests are complied with. Only in Illinois is the spinner-in-chief of the AG also tasked with ensuring the AG and other departments comply with FOI requests, with predictable results. (Posted October 17, 2010)

2.       Journalism Succumbs After Long Decline: An Autopsy. A post-mortem on journalism, including a radio interview of Lisa and the Chicago Tribune’s endorsement of Lisa Madigan, apparently cut and pasted from her press releases. (Posted October 14, 2010)

Additional essays will be posted in the final two weeks before the election.
