Charlie Brown Voters

The Republican and Democratic Charlie Browns are at it again. Election cycle after election cycle, the Republican and Democratic Lucy politicians of America promise to hold the football for Charlie Brown - for sure, this time, instead of pulling the ball away at the last second so to make Charlie Brown fall on his butt as he tries to kick his field goal.

"Cut spending, lower taxes," the Republican politicians say. And the Charlie Brown voters fall on their butts once again.

Restore our rights, get out of foreign wars," the Democratic politicians say - and the Charlie Brown voters fall on their butts once again.

What makes anyone think that this year will be any different? If you keep on doing what you have always done, you’ll keep on getting what you always got. If you keep on voting for Republicrats who try to sound like Libertarians at election time, you’ll keep on getting higher spending, higher taxes, more big brother, and more costly foreign wars affecting the lives of our nation’s young and the nation’s pocket book. Lots of sore butts out there.

On the eve of the 2010 midterm election, we would like to pause and say "Thank You" to all the wonderful people who have worked so hard this year to promote liberty in Illinois.  All ten of our candidates (Julie Fox, Steve Funk, Lex GreenJosh Hanson, Kevin HendricksonMike LabnoBill Malan, Doug Marks, James Pauly, and Ed Rutledge), along with their campaign volunteers and donors, have been nothing short of inspirational.

Some specific accolades have been eloquently stated in the following article, originally posted October 19, 2010 to Blogspot.com.

Thank You, Illinois
by Bridget Whitlow
Central Illinois Libertarians Chair

As election day comes, the realization that this past battle is about to end and another is about to begin seeps in. The past nine months have been very enlightening for me and the progress made by Libertarians throughout Illinois is definitely worthy of attention. Although there are still two weeks left before the numbers roll in and the next leaders are named, I feel that now is an excellent time to give thanks to all those Libertarians who have fought hard because they share a dream of living in a better Illinois.

The first person I would like to mention is Crystal Jurczynski. Crystal's guidance and leadership throughout the ballot access process rivaled the might of our predecessors who fought for their Rights as well. I never heard her complain about how tired she was or how difficult the task of gaining ballot access was. Instead she willingly and enthusiastically took on the challenges and worked diligently to regain thousands of petition signatures so that Libertarians would be included on the ballots statewide. If not for Crystal's tenacity, the Libertarians would currently all be pushing for write-in's statewide.

Lex Green, a true Libertarian and a great man, has made it his goal to reach out to as many Illinoisans as possible during his run for governor. I believe, without a doubt, that Illinois would benefit financially, ethically, and morally with Lex as governor. His focus on our Constitutional Rights and his honesty to himself has been a refreshing and welcomed change from the usual rhetoric and lies found in the two-party system. Lex is an open book and a kind man with realistic plans and positive ideas. I, for one, am proud to know him. My husband, "The Republican," (as the Libertarians dearly call him) also believes Lex is the right choice for governor in Illinois. For those who know my husband, that speaks volumes.

During the Illinois Libertarian Convention I met a couple who were visiting from California. They mentioned to me that Ed Rutledge, our current Lieutenant governor candidate, was very pleasant to talk to and if they lived in Illinois he would get their vote. Ed's charisma and down-to-Earth logic (and according to the woman from California- his good looks) has sparked a lot of interest among Libertarian newbies over the past few months, all with positive results.

Michael Labno, Senate candidate, has won the hearts of many voters in just the past few weeks. He put himself out there as himself, something no other Senate candidate in this election has been able to do. His goal is to protect our Constitutional Rights and Freedoms and nothing will ever change his agenda. No other candidate choice could have been a better one.

Although Julie Fox is well aware that she is the only candidate running for comptroller that is qualified for the job, she does not let that go to her head. She is as honest and realistic as they come. Proof of that is apparent because she took it upon herself to drive across Illinois on her own dime to deliver yard signs and other materials to people's homes. She is a mom and she is an accountant. She is also the perfect candidate for comptroller no matter the party.

Each person that has taken the jump and joined the Libertarian Party of Central Illinois (LPCI). These people live in a predominately Democratically influenced area yet they have the mindset that there is a better possibility for Illinois' future than what the mainstream media tells them. As strangers they have come together to spread the Libertarian message and to share their insights with each other. They have brought hope to an area where little hope was left.

And last, but certainly not least, everyone throughout Illinois, from the big cities to the farming communities, that has put up a yard sign, handed out a flyer, called local radio or television stations, written a letter to the editor, or hung a door hanger to help spread the names of the Libertarian candidates when organizations such as the League of Women Voters and media outlets such as MSNBC failed to do so. You are the driving forces to the positive changes and integrity restoration that Illinois so desperately needs. Our time is now, and all those that have made the choice to vote for Libertarian candidates this coming election day because they agree with the candidates' views and plans for Illinois, you are the folks that prove to the other voters that a vote for integrity and honesty is not a wasted vote.

No matter the outcome on November 2nd, each and every person that put forth their best efforts to restore pride and honor to Illinois I want to say thank you. Thank you to you all for all that you have done and will do.
