It’s hard to believe how quickly this summer came and went. Like you, our team at the MORIC was busy making preparations for the new school year, and this email is one of the new initiatives we are taking.
We’re launching a quarterly e-newsletter to enhance communication with component school district leaders and help keep you updated on state and regional news. It is part of our ongoing goal of enhancing communication with our stakeholders. Back in June, we launched our new website, which is more user-friendly and includes a number of new regional resource documents that we hope will ease your workload and reduce your paper and email searches.
In addition, I’m excited to introduce you to two new members of our administrative leadership team. Derek Lalonde, a longtime Model Schools Coordinator who primarily served the North Country, is now serving as an Educational Technology Planning Specialist. Eric Feola also joins us as our new Instructional Team Leader.Eric comes to us from the DeRuyter school district, where he was the technology director and a music teacher.
As staff and students return and you kick off the new year, please do not hesitate to reach out to any of our team members for support at any time. Welcome back!
Expanded PD offerings!
We have four primary focus areas in this year's catalog of professional development: I.T. Leadership, Technology Integration, Systems Management and Data Leadership. Many of our workshops also align with instructional initiatives from our four BOCES.
Check out the full catalog on our website.
Tech Showcase is always an exciting place to network, learn about technology trends and hear about best practices directly from experts in the field. Stay tuned for more details on this year's speakers and breakout sessions!
SED Has A New Privacy Chief
SED Commissioner MaryEllen Elia this summer named Temitope Akinyemi, an experienced attorney and former privacy officer for the Office of Information Technology, as
the state's first Chief Privacy Officer.
The CPO's leadership will assist education, technology and data privacy leaders across the state in better understanding Education Law-2d and supporting enhancements that may be necessary to ensure compliance with the law.
In the MORIC region, we are also excited about the opportunity to learn more about best practices in the data security field. Having a dedicated resource will benefit our district leaders, and we hope the CPO and her team will share resources and tools to assist all of us in implementing new processes that help safeguard our data. We will utilize these tools in combination with the tools, systems and staffing we are investing in regionally to support our districts' growing and changing needs.
