Commentary: Misrepresenting Small BusinessBloomberg Businessweek

Although the U.S Chamber of Commerce says it represents 3 million small businesses, that's misleading. The figure includes members of local and state chambers, which have no say over the national group's activities. The U.S. Chamber's direct membership includes some 300,000 small businesses, or about 1 percent of the total nationwide. While small businesses are prominent in its press releases, they're scarce in its boardroom; the vast majority of the Chamber's 125 board members represent large corporations.

Chamber to seek more members

| With its membership falling more than 30 percent in the past two years, the Henderson Chamber of Commerce is hiring its first sales manager to change things around. Chairman Kirk Clausen, regional president at Wells Fargo Bank, unveiled the strategy Aug. 6 during the chamber’s annual State of the Chamber luncheon at M Resort. About 275 members attended. The Henderson Chamber has gone from 1,800 members two years ago to about 1,200 members because businesses have either closed or chosen not to renew, Clausen said. Click HERE to Read More..
