Hi ,

Better Business Bureau Scam Alert:

Email With Malicious Link

An email with the subject line "Complaint from your customers" may be a scam, according to an urgent scam alert issued today by the Council of Better Business Bureaus.

The Council warned businesses and consumers that the return email address, riskmanager@bbb.org, is not an address the BBB uses, according to an email from BBB spokesperson Kelsey Owen. The fake scam email is signed with the address of the Council of Better Business Bureaus, which is the national office of the BBB system, but links to a non-BBB website. Owen, in her email alert, warns, "Do NOT click on the link."

While a scam email has been circulating for a couple weeks, the Council of Better Business Bureaus received another email with a malicious link today. "We're considering this a second wave," Owen told The Huffington Post. She confirms that other businesses have received the suspect email today: "The phones are ringing off the hook."

The BBB has requested that recipients of the scam email alert the BBB athttps://www.bbb.org/scam/report-a-scam/.

In the meantime, Owen says they're trying to track down whoever sent the email. "We have the FBI looking into it," she says.

The Power of People

By State Director –Minnesota, Mike Clough

It’s official. The Holiday season has arrived. Now that we’re past Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday, my mailbox is overflowing with offers from retailers. And, for me, there is a definite theme to these offers. They are mostly from companies selling products and services related to technology. Technology has allowed these companies to track my internet search and buying habits which reveal my interest in products related to technology.

As a card-carrying techno geek I own a smartphone, iPod, iPad, HD TV, feature-rich universal remote controls and most of the latest technology. Since I bought most of it online, savvy retailers utilized analytics to profile me as a buyer of all things technical. And they would be right.

How to Use Social Media for Research and Development

Have you ever wished you could use social media to conduct a focus group on your product or service offerings? No, you can't just open a Twitter account and say, "Hey, what do you think of our new recipe for pie?" But you can approach social media and use it for research and development two different ways: social media monitoring and directly seeking customer feedback. This is feasible even for a small business or one without a research-and-development budget.

The first approach is to use social media monitoring to gather intelligence about your company, product or service, competitors or industry. By listening to online conversations about certain topics your customers might be talking about, you can gather competitive intelligence that can inform your decision making and produce a better offering.
