The fifth annuual Midwest Leadership Summit is scheduled for September 26-27, 2011 at the Mayo Civic Center in Rochester, Minnesota.

This year's Summit brings together many of the nation's leading researchers and experts on response to intervention, effective instruction, and effective practices under one roof.  Featured speakers include George Batsche, Judy Elliott, David Tilly, Anita Archer, Kevin Feldman, Matt Burns, Shannon Harken, and Amelia Van Name Larson.

Strmnds incldue Leadership, Core Instruction/Literacy, Mathematics, and Coaching.  There are a number of individual sessions availabel focusing on special topics.

Welcome - Brad Niebling
We are pleased to announce that Brad Niebling has joined the staff of the Midwest Instructional Leadership Council as of July 1.

Brad serves as an educational consultant and instructional data coach for the organization.  Most recently, Brad spent 8 years as school psychologist, Regional Staff Support Specialist, and Alignment Specialist for Heartland Area Education Agency 11 in Johnston, Iowa.  His primary professional interests include intended, enacted, assessed, and learned curriculum alignment issues; response to intervention (RtI); school-wide decision-making frameworks; program evaluation; large-scale accountability programs; research-based practices; and the inclusion of students with disabilities in each of these contexts.  Additional areas of professional interest for Brad include mentoring and supervision of school psychologists, consultation, non-traditional roles for school psychologists, and working with children with challenging behaviors and anxiety disorders.  Brad earned his M.S. and Ph.D. in educational psychology, with an emphasis in school psychology, from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Curriculum Alignment  by Brad Niebling

The alignment of intended, enacted, and assessed curriculum, is an under-examined and misunderstood aspect of the educational process and often taken for granted.  Despite this relative lack of attention, the term alignment can often be seen in the documents we read and the conversations we have with our colleagues.  Alignment is a term that means different things to different people. So, how do we define alignment, and why does it matter?
