Hello friends.
How are your hearts during these strange times?
Some of you are new here, welcome.
I’m so grateful that you have taken the time to find yourself here, hopefully with a cup of tea or some hot coffee and a moment to sit and reflect.
During this time, I'm remembering all the parts of me that I forgot like. . .

-The Nikki that forged a signature permitting me to purchase a ticket (as a minor) to Nepal where I hiked solo in the Himalayas for two weeks. The greatest, most loneliest adventure of my life.
-The first therapist I ever sat in front of right after my parents got divorced. How scared and quiet and small I felt.
-The Nikki that climbed out the window of her parents home to walk the quiet streets, meet up with friends, run, and eat junk food.
-The Nikki that lost her best friend in 8th grade and then struggled to be close to people for fear that they might die, like my friend and like my mama.
-The Nikki that said yes to a great love without actually knowing what it was I was saying yes too.

There is, and always has been, the before and after. I come back to these images of myself, and see them in my girls. Are they like me or am I like them? I learn and forgive and laugh often at myself. I try to remember who I was and who I am becoming, and all the vast amounts of space in between.

I find myself these days trying to remember exactly what it was I was doing before March 16, when Covid began to shut much of the U.S down. I find myself remembering rehearsals for a play, coffee dates with friends, hugs, workout classes, gatherings of friends, sitting in a theatre, with such deep fondness. I also find myself imagining what will happen after, when stay at home restrictions are relieved and the world begins to flow again. Will I be enthralled? Overwhelmed? Will it feel as though anything has changed?

I'm also reckoning with my willingness and unwillingness to connect more virtually, at times I love it, and then so too, become exhausted by it. I'm learning what my bandwidth is all about. I've begun interviewing my daughters and recording audio excerpts of the things we are learning and discussing with so much more time together. My husband has been photo documenting the process.

The days are long and beautiful. I find myself paying more attention to the leaves out my window, and the collection of flowers my daughters forage for on our daily walks. I find myself craving more movement, both internally and externally. Most days my husband and I take an online movement class together, while our girls wake up. These moments are so sweet and fill me with such gratitude. Then the day turns, as quickly as the Portland weather, and I can feel stuck. Moment to moment, breath by breath, finding my way and my feet in this new upside world.

Practices I’m Carrying Forward-

For the last six weeks, I have been writing weekly newsletters to the incarcerated women I work with here in Oregon. Our class is 32 women full, with stories and realities so deep they would break you wide open. Each week, I share, I open up and practice revealing apart of myself that might encourage them to learn more about themselves too. This week, we studied this poem by rupi kaur-

i woke up thinking the work was done
i would not have to practice today
how naive to think healing was that easy
when there is no end point
no finish line to cross
healing is everyday work

Then each woman wrote their own version. I wrote my own version too. What would yours look like? What would you say? What work do you have to do? Share with me...and I'll share mine with you. Let's open the doors, instead of barring them shut.

Monthly Oil Blends-

If you are new to exploring the benefits of plants, there is no better time than now to elevate your knowledge. For centuries, plants have been the first healers. Most likely, you are familiar with lavender and it’s calming effects, you may even have some growing in your backyard. Or rosemary and it’s grounding qualities or deliciousness when used for cooking. Or lemons and how invigorating, uplifting, cleansing, and comforting they can be. All of these beneficial plants come in the form of essential oils that can fit right in your pocket, and these are some of the oils I use daily.

Lately, in our home school schedule we make time for learning about the plants, experimenting with how/where to use them, and my girls are even beginning to learn the basics of massage from me. In this essence, I am a proud mama, watching them both learn and understand how we can heal ourselves from the inside out.

If you know me, you know that I rarely ever use conventional medicine. I know it works, but it’s never been what I have been drawn to first. From a young age my stepmother would treat my abrasions with tea tree from our backyard in Sydney. At the time, I thought she was a little crazy, but now I do the same with my girls. They carry bits of lavender into the house or into their beds under there  pillowcases, and I encourage it.

If you would like to learn more about the healing benefits of some of my favorite oils, or to purchase any for yourself. Head over here:

Embracing the Soul, Let Your Wisdom Lead
Creators Celebration With Atieno Bird
October 23-26 2020

Atieno and I are excited to announce that the perfect spot for our 2020 Creators' Celebration (let's just admit it, it's more of a party than a retreat) has been selected!

We will be offering a Friday evening to Monday morning gathering for women in the charming waterfront hamlet of Chestertown, MD Oct 23-26. Chestertown is about an hour and a half from nearby airports.

Our theme is  Embracing the Soul; Let Your Wisdom Lead
There are many times when life requires active  yang energy of us: "reflect, choose, be intentional, create, own the authorship of your life and make the changes you need!" This retreat will focus on those more receptive  yin tasks that are not really tasks: letting the soul be who it is, accept love and healing, feel what it feels, grieve its losses, and reveal a way when it is ready. Where can you let go of pressuring yourself and instead ...allow? I can't help but mention that the topic has already begun - selecting Chestertown took a lot of yin processing; the way emerged on its own timing.

Our celebrating between sessions looks likely to include some of the following: wine-tasting, art-making, theater, galleries, main street shopping, walks, spa time, brunches and dinners, dancing, and free time. We will be walking distance from all activities (driving is of course an option, but not provided.)

Cost: $675, to be paid by check or Venmo
(@Nikki-Weaver) Payment plans are available.

Cost includes luxury accommodation in a double (contact me for single occupancy price), all programming (yoga, facilitation of circle time, coaching) healthy snacks, continental breakfast foods, and wine. Other meals and tastings will be at local cafes (google "restaurants in Chestertown" to get an idea of prices,) and spa time is at your discretion. You will be able to bring and store food.

And lastly:

Virtual pre-recorded practices for you to do on your own time, right here, right now:

If you are like me, I don't always want to practice on someone else's schedule. I've got you covered-

Yoga:
1 hour to Move and Groove with me
This class is a benefit class for the Girls on Fire Leaders in Kenya. A nonprofit I serve and give too, learn more about the work they do right here: Girls on Fire Leaders. You'll get a good work out, plus some original music from me at the end too.

1 hour to Laugh and Cry with me (no, seriously, I wipe snot on my leg for a lot of this practice):
This practice is dedicated to my female warrior sisters across the world, and to my father in law who is fighting for his life right now. Loss=Connection, we have a choice. If these subjects speak to you, then tune in for a delicious practice followed by a healing text from the ever gifted, Pixie Lighthorse, read by moi.

Meditation:
10 Minutes to Ground and Expand
Short Talk and Guided Meditation (15mins)

A Blessing for you-

Moving into the beauty of May, halfway around the globe in this year, and here we are, together and yet apart. Maybe more connected to ourselves. May this new month give you the space to take a deep look at your values, your priorities, and your people. May you count your blessings and your tribe, build it, deepen it, and gather yourself in love.

From my heart to yours,

Nikki
