Welcome—This is our first Newsletter for Newark Liberty International Airport. The purpose of this newsletter is to bring you updates on the development of this site as well as keep you informed about activities that we are doing on a corporate level at other Airports around the country.
We have been fully operational at Newark since December 21, 2010 and during these first 8 months we have had a number of challenges that we have learned to adapt to. I am proud to say this site is now profitable and continues to grow and prosper.

We have discovered a healthy and growing base of fleet businesses and have been working to provide the “fastest” and most responsive offering as well as put procedures in place that ensure quick capture of bill-ing and collections data. Based on the success of closing these accounts, we have doubled our efforts to widen the net by targeting specific commercial fleet accounts such as Marriott Hotels, TSA, Port Author-ity commercial vehicles, limos and Town Cars. We have realized that these accounts represent our most loyal and growing business segment.

In addition to the activities for commercial accounts we have also taken steps to further publicize services to the airport community of employees. After working diligently to complete and receive our certificate of occupancy from the Port Authority, we have been allowed to create and install advertising on the Bus Shelters within the Employee Parking Lots. These—along with concentrated marketing efforts are in place to promote all our offerings to the airport community.

We are proud of our accomplishments at Newark. We have learned how airports are quite different from local markets and the experience gained from Newark is being applied to our future projects at JFK, St. Louis, & Ft. Myers.

Thank You

Employee of the Month
Airport Plazas recognizes the contribution of each and every employee. Customer Service is the key to successfully building a business in “Our Small City at Newark”

In keeping with that belief we have instituted an Employee of the Month program that recognizes the contribution of an individuals efforts to our continued growth. Our August winner was Mr. Royden Blackman. Royden has been with us from our opening and is always punctual, reliable and his work ethic serves as a role model to all our staff. His contribution to our customer service is an asset that is al-ways valued.

Newark GM and his Staff Congratulates Royden for a Job well Done!
Our Towing Services
Towing service sales will represent a healthy and consistent revenue stream for Newark. In anticipation of that need, we purchased the pictured Ford 650 flatbed tow truck in order to be able to tow disabled vehicles as large as shuttle buses and light trucks. We are now in the rotation of airport service providers.

Additionally, in June of this year we were approved by AAA (American Automobile Association) as an authorized provider of services as well as a call center for emergency tows in and around Newark Airport. Since many of their tow jobs require accessing parking facilities we are now finalizing the purchase of a smaller truck to accommodate the height and size restrictions of the parking decks. We have already been enjoying the benefits of that association and have been assured that this business will increase as our details and contacts are passed through the network. We are dedicated to providing our airports with ALL the services they require from our type of plaza—this is just another component of our dedication to customer service for our marketplace.

Our Corporate Corner
This past month Airport Plazas submitted its bid for a project at Dallas / Ft. Worth Air-port (DFW). Airport Plazas has been short listed as one of three potential finalists. The DFW project is one of the most exciting opportunities for the company. The airport is even larger than JFK and employs over 50,000 people. Situated on the north side of the airport, the plaza is minutes away from The Gaylord and The Gray Wolf Lodge.

While the company eagerly awaits the outcome, the team is busy working on a response to our invitation to bid on two Maryland Turnpike plazas. Anyone who has ever traveled the I-95 corridor between DC & NY is familiar with these iconic properties known as The Maryland House and The Chesapeake House. These properties have 40 year terms, so in some ways they are a chance of a lifetime opportunity. The competition looks stiff with HMS Host as the incumbent and other heavy hitters from Westfield’s, The Carlyle Group, and many more.

Having won JFK, St. Louis and Fort Myers, work is underway for these projects. We anticipate breaking ground at JFK before the end of the year. Our plan is to open all three in the summer of 2012. Stay tuned for the upcoming bidding results!
