| NEWS & TRAINEE UPDATES
VONNIE and TRINA have both left us; Trina has a job she
likes with a nightclub company, Vonnie graduated after completing her CNA
certification, is doing some part-time elder care CNA work and looking for
more.
New Trainees include VERNNA, DANIEL and VICTORIA. All three are kept busy in the dishroom and with catering
and show great eagerness to pitch in wherever needed.
VERNNA and MICHAEL went with Sr. Judy to a performance
of "Phantom of the Opera" at
St. X high school and LOVED it.
SHARON
completes her year at PIP this month. She has a thee month extension in the program because she is attending school. So, while going to school and working at PIP, she must be in intensive job search mode. She is applying for all types of work
including hotel work.
All our seniors attended a job fair at Sharonville Convention
Center; we were prepared, dressed well and came with resumes so we got
many opportunities to put in applications.
Our trainees learned that many employers are automatically requiring GED
now, regardless of a candidate's other qualifications. So some trainees have
their applications on hold pending completion of the GED within six weeks.
SmartMoney Financial Services has been providing our monthly
in-service trainings; last month was budgeting, this month was credit. Most or our trainees came back swearing NEVER
to sign up for credit cards, and with a new understanding of the role credit ratings
can play in our lives. We also received
training from "Bike-Friendly Cincinnati" about bicycle commuting and
bike safety.
BRIDGETTE and Tutoring Coordinator TEBBE will be featured in
a video by the Sisters of Notre Dame De Namur featuring their work to promote
education through PIP and Notre Dame
Mission Volunteers Americorps programs.
This video will be shown at a huge informational event at CINTAS center,
where 2007 PIP graduate SHARON W. , who has been employed at the Westin for four years, will be a speaker.
TONI along with Executive Director RINA were featured in a
half hour "ISSUES" show with Courtis Fuller on Channel 5 WLWT. You can see it here.
All our trainees and staff are getting used to our NEW HOURS- open 10-9:30 on Fridays and Saturdays. This meant drastic changes to everyone's
schedule in hours and days worked.
Jazz for Peace: 175
people attended our fundraiser concert on March 19 at beautiful Memorial Hall. The Erwin Stuckey Trio and Rick DellaRatta with Jazz for Peace performed. SCPA was well represented with a student, a
graduate and a teacher amongst the musicians.
Councilmember Laure Quinlivan welcomed the crowd, WLWT's Courtis Fuller emceed
and did some standup to keep us going through a delay, and Yvonne
Bradley made us a cry and cheer with her success story. THANK YOU to all the volunteers, guests, staff and donors
who made this happen. TBNK has
prepared a video, which is currently in editing- it will be broadcast this summer and featured on our website.
