News and Updates

Daniel passed the GED!  We're so proud of him. Daniel plans to attend college in mechanical engineering, and is currently pursuing scholarship applications. Congratulations, Daniel.

Toni and Alesia have both graduated and left Venice for new jobs.  Toni will be cooking at Xavier University's new cafeteria, a perfect setting for her.  Alesia is working retail at Thornton's, where her schedule will allow her to continue in school.

Bridgette and Sharon are leaving in August and September and are job hunting hard.  We appreciate the job leads that some of our friends have shared with us-- please keep sending these leads our way!

New trainees this month include Gwen, Chrystal, Chavon, Lisa and Derrick.  That's almost a third of our group, so it makes for a challenge. Our more experienced trainees are helping a lot in bringing the new folks along and supporting them as they learn.

Our job coach, Gloria Cure, has taken on new responsibilties. In addition to bringing trainees into the program, counseling them on attendance and behavior, and handling stipends and payroll, Gloria is also responsible for coordinating all in-service education workshops, tutoring and job search.  She will be working closely with our volunteers to assess and remove employment barriers for our trainees.

Deskey, Inc. is a national branding, marketing and design company based in Cincinnati.  Deskey is providing pro-bono services to help PIP understand what our brand, name(s) and messages mean to the community. Amanda, Sherwood and Beth have conducted extensive interviews with stakeholders, and we thank all of you for participating.  By fall we'll have learned how to incorporate this knowledge strategically into everything we do.

Our board outreach committee is developing a slideshow presentation to be used in asking Cincinnati corporations to partner with PIP.  If you are interested in learning more, email us at info@powerinspiresprogress.com

We're grateful to Hayden Donaho and friends the Harmon family and Martin family, who have provided assorted school supplies including pencils and pens, notebooks, and reading glasses for Tebbe's Tutoring Corner.  They've also provided a fund of graduation gift certificates for trainees.
