My Renaissance:
"The world is a mirror reflecting images of me and everything that
I have done. For my world to be what I want it to be, I must change.
I am humbled by what I do not know; it’s time to learn..
It’s time to reveal my truth, who I really am, if I want the world to
reflect the true me."

Dear Friends:

Thank you for supporting the mission of Power Inspires Progress in 2011. With your help, we provide on-the-job training for inner city residents with employment barriers.

In 2011 so far, 45 adults participated in the training program at Venice on Vine and Venice Catering. They cook good food while building their skills, education and confidence. Our wonderful volunteers joined in community with us, doing tutoring, gardening, fixing computers, marketing, forwarding job leads and seeking funding to keep our program going.

We wish you and your loved ones a joyful holiday season. We hope that in 2012 you experience the power and inspiration that we build here at Venice on Vine.

Please make a gift for the 2011 year. You can donate online or by mail; by, check or credit card, by donations of stock or by disbursements from IRAs and other retirement funds.  All donations to PIP are fully tax deductible; some are even matched by sponsoring corporations.

News and Updates

 Alumni Gathering:

LaDon organized an alumni gathering this month for folks who graduated from PIP over the last few  years.  Trina helped by phoning a lot of folks and Mary brought the cake.  We caught up on how everyone was doing.  We were loud and raucus and had a great time! Thanks to LaDon and Gloria and to all who attended this event.

New trainees in November are: Crista (returning from leave), Lydia, Kari, and Dominic. We have had our last open interview of the year, and will end the year full up.

Sr. Judy has enrolled Etta and Ebony on a special catering crew that will work specifically on catering for our weekend and evening parties- this requires the ability to handle flexible hours and tasks on top of good customer service skills.

Etta will be leaving us this month and is actively job hunting.  She has excelled on all of our stations and is especially valued in catering.  She supports and trains other staff and doesnt get flustered by a lunch rush or a large catering event.  We wish her well.  It will take two trainees to make up for Etta!

Sarah Traxler, a senior in Miami University Business School's Social Entrepeneurship program, will be completing her internship with us.  Among her many projects, she has created a social media communications plan, marketed our Venice Kitchen products and developed a relationship with Madison's in Findlay Market.  Sarah also developed our new partnership program, celebrating businesses who support Venice on Vine through repeated purchases each month (see story to our left).  Sarah will continue on working for businesses making a difference in the world and we wish her luck.

PIP Board members:  Elections were held in November for PIP's Board of Trustees.  Our nominating committee came up with a slate of seven new members to add to our returning Trustees.  We said farewell to Rainer Jaescke and Cliff Pope, who will continue in committe work but not on the Board.  Janet Schelb (our new board Chair); Lucy Voegele (new board Vice-Chair); Garey Lindsay (Treasurer); Nick Shaver (Secretary); Gloria Stewart; Jan Kennedy; Monica McGloin, OP; Maureen Heverin, SC; Aggie Brackmann, Tom Barlow and Sid Lieberman will continue to serve. We added new members Melissa Back, Karen Kearney, Yvonne Bradley, Mike Hanrahan, Allyson Lilburn, Sally Slattery and Chet Nalepa, and we look forward to the strengths and insights they will bring our community.

Calendar
Dec 30 is the Final Friday of the month and of the year.  Venice Vibes, our music series will feature "HIP HOP HOLIDAYS from 6-7 p.m.  Guest artists from Elementz will bring hip hop, spoken word, r&b and more with a holiday theme to the restaurant.  No cover charge, so enjoy a song and a slice!

Holiday Hours:  Venice on Vine will be closed Saturday-Monday Dec 24-26 and Dec 31-Jan 2.

Venice Kitchen
Venice Kitchen announces a new product: Party in A Cup!  Its a gift keepsake mug filled with all the ingredients you need to bake an iced, decorated cake in minutes.  You just add any kind of soda and cook in the microwave. Party in a Cup is the brainchild of our beloved cake-lady Ruth Richardson.  They sell for $10 and are on sale at Venice on Vine and at the Sarah Center and IJPC gift fairs.
