Venice on Vine's Training Partnership Program is a rewards program that invites companies and organizations to support good food for a good cause, while gaining access to a variety of insider savings!
Thank you March 2012 Training Partners!
March brought many alternative spring break groups from Iowa, New Hampshire, New York, Colorado and more.
These students do service projects in our OTR community for about a week, visit the sights, and then stop at Venice for pizza and a talk about social enterprise and jobs. THANK YOU ALL!

News and Updates
Five new trainees joined us in March: Whitney, Steve, Chiquita, Riunita and Shaunita. Steve, our baby at just 18 and living on his own, will be our first person to graduate high school while in the program: he has one more month to go! Whitney and Chiquita are already baking and catering with Sr. Judy; Shaunita has mastered Fritz the dishwasher, and comes in each day cheerful and ready to work.
Volunteer Larry Daniels is teaching Kenyetta and Chavon to drive. Chavon got her temporary license and is ready to go! Larry insists that learning to drive includes learning how the car works and how to change tires and oil.
Anthony will be assigned to our special catering shift all month. Since his goal is to run his own catering business, this is a great fit; and he makes beautiful salami rollups. He'll work with Ignatian Service volunteer Joan Lee, as well as Beth Canarie and Joyce Chiles and Joe Meiners who help out with catering! thanks to all.
Thanks to tutor Barbara for bringing in poetry worksheets, Mark for encouraging the entire team to use them to write poems, and Catherine for turning them into our newest art exhibit!
Thanks to the staff of Rumke Recycling who gave us a tour of the recycling center and taught us how to process our recyclables and what happens to them afterward. It was a great field trip!
A friendly group from Yelp Helps cleaned out our basement last month, assisted by Ebony, Ryan, Catherine and Rina. THe result is a basement where you can actually FIND STUFF!!! Since this last cleanout, I'm finally confident that we don't have Jimmy Hoffa or Elvis hidden down there somewhere. We recycled boxes and paper, gave old construction equipment and tools to OTR Community Housing, old electronics to Habitat for Humanity, metals to GottaMess,Thank you YELPers! |
Venice Catering: We have simplified our menus; same good prices, same great food, just formatted to make it easier for customers to choose depending on the type of event: dinner, lunch, reception, etc. We have a special menu for churches and religious organizations to offer parishoners for funerals, memorials and receptions. See www.powerinspiresprogress.com
Venice on Vine Pizza: Thanks to donor Donna Lilly, PIP has a cute little Schwin Tricycle. We're planning to start peddle powered pizza delivery throughout the neighborhood by the end of the month. We know our customers are eager for environmentally friendly delivery, and we have Queen City Bike to help train us in bike safety. But we have lots of logistics to work out- please contact us if you have tips or suggestions. We're also considering selling naming rights. Make us an offer?
Venice Kitchen: In May we'll restart our Farmers Market program, taking our packaged items out to neighborhood markets. It's a good way to make money, train in sales skills, and reach out to the community. We need volunteers who can drive and work with a trainee once a month on a weekday from approx 2:30-7 pm to take items to market. Email or call to volunteer. |
