Dear Subscriber
I just want to say thank you to the Face Book community. Randy Byers Horsemanship is now over 3,500 friends and counting; we get about 30 request a day. I have met some really nice people that have the same passion as I do. Lots of great questions and funny commentary too.
Face Book has opened a new door of opportunity. We have been invited to conduct clinics in Ontario Canada, Oklahoma, Texas, and California.
As soon as we work out the details, we will add them to the calender of events.
Time will tell if the hosts can put together all the details.
Be watching for the next newsletter, (March) we will be making a big announcement.
Also, we have bought a booth at the NW Horse Fair & Expo in Albany Oregon on March 19-21. Come by and say hi.
We have a new theme this year!

The Attention Span of a Horse "How Long is it"?
11.8 seconds, 10 minutes, or 2 hours? Have you ever seen a horse sit and stare at a Llama for hours, or stand at the gate for hours on end waiting to be fed, or how about concentrating on "NOT" going into the trailer for two hours?
Have you ever seen what kind of attention span a upper level Dressage or Reining horse have? Most upper level"Discipline" horses that are really broke do not have the same attention span that most recreational horses have. What do these horses have that recreational horses do not have?
Performance!
Yes, in upper level "Disciplines", these horses have performance. What does "Discipline" mean? "To discipline thus means to instruct a person (horse) to follow a particular code of conduct" ? Did you noticed the word conduct? A horse that is performing in "Disciplines" have better conduct!
Take a look at "Carbon" in the picture ----->
What do you see? Focus, Concentration, Performance!
So back to the question, "what is the length of time a horse can concentrate"? The answer: The
same length of time “you” can concentrate. Think about this, if you
take your attention off of the horse, will the horse continue to
concentrate on a certain task? NO! Ask yourself, who is the one
distracted first? You may ask how can I get better performance if my horse will not focus on the task to get better performance?
What is needed first! Your horse is a reflection of you. You need to focus on "YOUR" performance first, (get better at asking the cue) as your performance gets better so will your horse. Then once the performance is better from both of you, he will concentrate as long as you do!

A New Sample Video of "What is the Attention Span of your Horse"?
Please enjoy this sample video on some concepts that will be released along with a new innovative training aid.
Last year 2009, we started to make training videos. Our goals are to lay out a good training formant to help you raise your expectations.
This year, 2010, we have plans for many more training aids and videos to help with both ground and saddle issues. One of the projects that we would like to accomplish this year is to show you deeper understanding of horses and providing more advance riding skills like standing and walking departures, leads, and flying lead changes, but that is later this year..
