A quick word about this email list.  We plan send send our monthly-ish updates on it.  Our blog will (hopefully) be updated more regularly.  We won't share your contact info with anyone, and you can unsubscribe from the list at any time (through a link at the bottom of the email.)  If you want to add emails, there is a sign up form on our website - www.calledtocolombia.org.

A little more information:

Mamie and Richard have been appointed as mission co-workers with the Presbyterian Church USA (PCUSA) in partnership with the Presbyterian Church of Colombia (IPC).  Our position is called "Pastoral Accompaniers for Human Rights and Displaced People".  We will be helping in country with the accompaniment program that the Presbyterian Peace Fellowship has been running since 2005 (www.presbypeacefellowship.org/colombia) as well as communicating with churches and anyone who will listen to us about the situation in Colombia and the ways in which people in the United States can assist and advocate for change.  Beyond that, we will wait and see!  Richard has a lot of Spanish to learn, Mamie has some Spanish to improve, and we both need to learn a lot more about the needs and hopes of the IPC and determine together how we can serve in the ministry of this wonderful, vibrant church

Our appointment with the church is for three years, and we will start out in Barranquilla, near the Caribbean Coast (that's us, suffering for Jesus...).  The headquarters of the IPC are there, though we will likely travel throughout the country.  We would love to have visitors, and if you are really anywhere above Texas, who doesn't want to escape February?  You can come down and stay with us, or come down with a group that you create or we hook you up with.  Either way, you are always welcome.

We will also be grateful for your prayers - for patience with language learning, for boldness in making new friends, for strength to be far from current family and friends, for humility because we never have enough of it, for hope and faith because we never have enough of that either, and for safety.

Que Dios les bendiga (may God bless you all),
Mamie and Richard
